Then you will be entitled to the 2 bed rate if you got the child benefit and child tax credits for them. Baring in mind the mum will lose these, so she might not let you

Splitting up the family even more than it is already - really good idea!

Hang on a minute.....who are you to judge? My daughter wants to come and live with me. My ex is happy with this as she will still get to see her everyday. Unless you have some proper advice please keep your mouth shut.

This is what happens when you rely on the state and can't pay your own rent, you must follow the rules, the benefits system is unflexible, rigid and can't cope with unique circumstances.

And it makes sense for those not close to the situation. Why should the tax-payer pay for a big house for you when the children don't live with you? Can you see it now?

And there is no need to be homeless, you are entitled to accomodation, its just the state won't pay extra for rooms where the kids don't live.

I really think you need to take control of the situation and get more hours (or a new job) at least to take you up to WTC.

How about no longer being masochistic?
    How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?

The only benefit I have ever received has been the tax credits. Never had housing benefit before so I am new to all this. I don't see how mine can be a unique circumstance. A father wanting to be able to spend time with their children. I understand what you are saying but why punish dads who want to have as normal a relationship with their children as possible.

No need to be insulting to other posters. You put your story up here so anyone reading is able to judge if you like it or not,

No need to throw your toys out of the pram because some responses aren't as fluffy or agree with you as you would like.

I apologise to the poster if I was rude. I'm going through a difficult time at the minute and really struggling with things that are happening. I just want to give my children the best I can and don't feel I'm being allowed due to these changes.

No one is saying you can't spend time with your children. What are you being told is that the state won't pay for a bigger house than you need.

You have been told this. Then told to up your hours. Thats advice.

Then suddenly its a option to live with one of the kids and hence get a bigger house.

And your asking people not to judge you?

I've given you proper advice - up your hours!

If you're going to be living so close to your family, renting somewhere for the children to sleep is not nearly as important as if you lived at a distance.
