will my car fail the MOT if you can`t read the mileometer

I know that all the warning lights must work, but have no idea about the odometer. Why not ring-up an MOT place and ask them?. At least then you will have a correct answer (which you can then share with us).Never Knowingly Understood.

I would think it would fail.
Since about 1936 a vehicle must have an instrument to tell the driver it's speed.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
As I presume you mean the odometer (not the speedometer) no I don't believe it's a fail. I have a car that has 20 plus MOT's showing the same miliage.0

My first taxi ('H' reg Cavalier) managed to get through about 6 MoT's and 4 years of 6-monthly London-style fitness tests with a speedo that was REALLY out (and I mean 40mph when you were doing 90 out).
Unless the law changed since 2006, I don't think you'll have a problem.

Odometer isn't tested, speedometer will be when they get around to "activating" the new testable items but the test will be limited to "obviously not working" - presumably damaged in a way that you can tell it won't work without actually driving anywhere.0

Dont worry after a few complaints all the new stuff they want to test get withdrawn.
Seems a lot of the new stuff for this year is already under review. Engine light on oh thats a fail. Why. My dealer says the DPF needs a cycle and that lights telling me that. err oh...
I remember they failed cars for not having the dealer info on the plate. But they started failing cars that were registered before they make the rules up about having that info on the plate.
Soon got withdrawn. Re-instated later on after they had made everyone aware.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
No, it isn't a fail, I've had a car pass with a working speedo but a broken odometer (was an LCD one so not visible at all), they just put "unrecordable" or something on the milage.0

They will be able to see it with a torch or parked in the sunshine.
Failing that they will probably enter 000,000.0 -

For the sake of a new bulb, why not fit a new one?
Especially as you are hoping to sell the car. Any prospective buyer will want to see the mileage.
That and you might want to track it to make sure you service it at the right time if you do a lot of miles.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
