Thanks, that's good to know. I don't have an "inclusive" calls package at the moment, but DD is starting to rack up the calls a bit now so I'm thinking of getting it.

It isn't necessarily as straightforward as that as you need to remember that "inclusive" only means 01/02 numbers.

Make sure you use Saynoto0870 to avoid as many 084/087 numbers as possible. ;)

Or get one of THESE to really cramp her style!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If you hpne virgin ask for customer retentions and you will get 24/7 unlimiteb calls 9less than 1 hour) and 2 MB broadband for £20 a month.

So no big deal unless you have a habbit of taking for more than an hour with out putting the phone down.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Minute billing is being introduced for CHARGEABLE calls.

" the way your call charges are calculated is also changing. Instead of charging to the nearest second, calls will be rounded up to the next minute.
So for example, a call that lasts 4 minutes and 50 seconds will be rounded up to 5 minutes."

A short chargeable geographical call (less then a minute) will therefore now cost a wacking 9p . (6p connection + 3p for call).

Short peak mobile call (Orange ,o2,Voda,T-Mob) 21p. (6p connection plus 15p for call).

    Short peak 0870 call. 16p. ( 6p connection 10p for call).

For cheaper chargeable calls via Virgin Media (Ex Cable) see

It's all vety well saying a 4minute 50 second call will be rounded up to 5minutes.

But what about all the times you get connected to an answer machine or voicemail? This means that a 1 second call will also be charged at 1 minute.
    Very bad.
