Is my TV, Phone and Broadband a good package or should I look to change?

Options
I have sky broadband unlimited (£7.50), and sky talk freetime at £12.25 (rarely use the house phone but need it for the broadband). Our TV package is basic but costs £19.50– no sports, HD or movies and for the TV, Phone and Broadband we pay £39.25 per month.

Virginmedia.com are not in our area for cable TV, but although we need the phone and broadband internet we could get a freesat box and do away with sky all together.

If anyone has any recommendations to cut our monthly outgoings it would be greatly appreciated.

You could cancel you Sky TV subscription, which will be increasing by around £1.50 / month next month, and just have Freesat from Sky, you would lose the recording facility of your Sky+ box, and have to pay an extra £2.50/ month for the broadband and phone.

But a Humax Freesat PVR would soon be paid for out of the savings you'd make by cancelling your TV sub.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I had exactly the same packages as you and ended up ditching Sky all together (although I had been very happy with their service). I also paid roughly £11 per month to BT for line rental.

Do you pay £39.25 per month and line rental on top, or does that include your line rental?

I now have my landline (including line rental) and unlimited broadband from Orange for around £18 per month. I also got cashback on this deal so it worked out a lot cheaper overall. I have a Humax Foxsat + box for TV, as I still wanted to be able to record programs. However, in my bedroom I have the old Sky box (no new freesat from Sky card purchased or anything) so can get most of the free channels at no extra cost.

If you still want to be able to record, I'd recommend buying a Humax box or similar. If you're not fussed about recording or getting certain channels, you could just stick with your current Sky box after cancelling.

Bear in mind that if you phone to cancel Sky, they will probably offer you 6 months half price minimum to try to retain you!

Thanks for your replies. I phoned Sky and went through the "thinking of leaving" process and was offered a 'no lock in' 6 months period with 25% off our TV (approx £5) which will beat the rise in monthly amount due, however still not that competitive.

My dad has a Humax so am familiar with those, but i have also heard about freeview+ which i assume is similar to sky+ in that you can record programs etc.

I use quidco and have seen that BT are doing some good deals in regards to cashback but i don't know to much about their pricing structure per month.

Due to having to tighten our spending my partner changed our full sky package today which is costing us £83.68 at present for unlimited broadband, line rental with free evening and weekend calls (we hardly use ), sky world which is all sky channels including movies and sports and sky plus hd pack.He cancelled the movies and sports but we still going to be paying £55 just wondered if there was any way of reducing this further dont want Virgin as tv freezes in our area not really got problem with Sky service but dont want to be still paying £55. Btw we were told once the movies and sports channels are disconected next month any movies or sports already recorded on our sky plus box will be erased now this part I thought was a cheek when I have already paid for those  Anyone else heard this one???

    Nothing new there.
Sky have also hijacked the recording aspect of the machine, so if you cancel Sky completely the Sky+ won't record anymore!.

As for having paid already for the movies recorded, that's not really true as you paid to view them only while subscribed to SkyMovies.

If you're really struggling with £55 a month to Sky, I suggest you downgrade your subscription to the Entertainment Pack. It's amazing how quickly you'll adjust to losing those extra channels.
