Advice on Sim card for Australia

Hi Everyone,

I'm off to Oz shortly for 3+ weeks with a 3 day stopover in Hong Kong.
I want to take my iPhone (Tesco Mobile sim installed) and my iPad which at present has no sim installed as I use it on wifi at home.

What I would like to know is what would be the cheapest way to make calls and download data to the iPhone/iPad?

Would I be better off buying a sim here or getting one in HK or Oz?

Stating the obvious, firstly get your phone unlocked.

The terminology and complexity of the smartphone offers suggests that going into a shop and getting something you can buy with cash (not a card swipe) would be a good idea.

For a few days in HK I would take a PAYG UK SIM and put your contract SIM in a non-smart phone.

There is a fair chance that your hotel will do WiFi there.
