Places to stay in Paris?

Hello,

We're planning on going to Paris for a weekend in early September. Can anyone recommend anywhere to stay?

I can - but that would be in the area I love and to the budget that I have.

Have you got a budget? What are you doing when you are over there?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

not sure on budget really - ideally what we're after is something nice and romantic without costing a fortune. i guess top end would be £80 - £100 per night, but less than that would obviously be good.

i've never been to Paris before so plan on doing some of the usual touristy things. i would quite like to stay somewhere 'typically Parisian' (tall windows, little balcony etc) but again, i'm flexible.

sorry for not providing much clarification!

We stayed in a place like that maybe 10 years ago, nothing special.
We were thinking of returning this year and the missus checked the prices online. They had risen to an unacceptable £180 prpn.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

This seems to be asked quite often - have you tried searching on 'paris hotel' - should be a few useful threads

We are going to Paris in August. We connect in Montparnasse and booked a hotel in the area called Pullman Hotel. We are two adults, two kids and baby and we got a room for all of us for 180 including breakfast. It's a four star, but no nice place with big windows etc. Beware that the 20th arr is usually cheap, but not very safe. I used to stay in Paris.
The English magazines Fusac and Paris Voice will give you leads for longer or holiday stays to English speaking individuals if your french is not that great.

We stayed recently at the Hotel Jarry. I think it cost about £80 for a triple room. Tall windows, little balcony, winding starcase (no lift!). Very close to a Metro stop (Chateau d'Eau). Not a smart area, but we felt completely safe there at night (and got a great African meal nearby).

We went to Paris 3 years ago and stayed in the Ibis Hotel Paris Montmartre 18 eme which was about £70 per night. It was a 5 min walk from the Moulin Rouge and about a 15 min walk to the Sacre Coeur. It was near the metro station and there were some wonderful French bakeries within walking distance so in the morning we went there for a cheap breakfast.

In terms of district I'd recommend the 14th, 15th, and 17th (the end of the district where you have access to metro stations Porte de Champerret, Pereire, Wagram...etc on line 3...not the end where you have access to Porte de Clichy etc on line 2 as that end of the district is yucky). Can't recommend specific hotels however as I've lived in the area for years so naturally don't have much call for hotels :p I do know that the Hotel Ampere (mentioned above) is way outside your budget though. They have a lovely restaurant and bar should you wish to visit it however!
