Which blood pressure monitor?

My consultant has asked me to take my blood pressure, as a matter of course, twice each week and indefinitely. I have a cheap one but my local surgery tested it and it is reading too low.

I will ask the surgery for suggestions but wonder what suggestions you may have. Whilst I want good value I want one that is accurate?

Thanks

I have one from Lloyds pharmacey paid about £10 for it a few years back, seems ok and hasn't let me down.
    I hate migraines.
  • I second the one from Lloyds Pharmacy, I bought one on the £10 deal a few years ago (I think they still do it every now and then) and it has always stayed accurate.

For the best results etc. it needs to be an arm cuff monitor like GP's use accredited to the british hypertension soc. (I forget the correct soc. we were advised to buy a decent one nearly four years ago now and its still going strong doing at least one reading a day)

They cost more but it worth getting one whos relts you can depend on, they are still affordable we paid about £30 for ours.

We have this one and it has always been very good. Have a read through the reviews.

Thank you all so much for offering advice.

BUT my surgery has once again checked my current monitor and have said it is, after all, OK. So save me pennies on this one :j

The wrist monitors are not as accurate, I don't think that the British Hypetension Society recommend any of these.

make sure you get the right size arm cuff too, that can also affect the reading, hubby had bp checked and was told his bp was too high, when he seen specialist at the hospital, it was fine, they told him the cuff the gp was using wasn't large enough, ( he has big arms) and now when ever he gets bp checked he reminds them to use x-large cuff,

Good point and I am sure one that is often overlooked

    I didn't know about that:eek:

How do you know if the arm cuff is the right size?

OH and I both use the monitor, so perhaps one of us is getting an incorrect reading.
