Thanks :) I'll let you know how it goes.
  • I cannot comprehend why anyone would wish to buy a car from someone 200 miles away. That's the distance from Manchester to London.

What happens when it needs a repair or warranty work? You have a 400 mile round trip to fix a faulty headlight or replace a faulty track rod end, costing YOU the fuel costs.

Unless you are buying a rare car, there are thousands of examples of every model available to you locally (unless you live in the highlands of Scotland or remote Wales).

I think a lot of people think "It's the internet and it gives me access to every used car in the country" which is perfectly true.

However, they rarely seem to to give thought to what happens if things go wrong. They treat car buying like buying a DVD or second hand book.

I would take this up with Visa as you have said, ask them to file a charge back, you may have to tell them that the decision to demand a charge back is your decision to make, not the banks, they can get a bit confused and high and mighty.

The OP used Visa Debit not Credit Card, that makes it much harder to make that stick. Not impossible but you do have to be aware of the difference.

Ignore my "followers", they are known as the idiots advice bureau..

There's a lot of it on this board but that's a bit ott there is it not? You've been very very wrong on a number of occasions from what I have seen and you don't tend to come back to threads or apologise so sometimes it is justified.

Far too much testosterone around here sometimes.
Be aware from day 1 that a LTD company car dealer can be very hard to collect upon any CCJ obtained and may have several outstanding already, often the LTD company has no worthy assets to its name with stock sold via dodgy commission deals from another LTD company with the same directors.
A charge back is the first option to pursue, just stick to your guns.

Scaremongering there. Bit harsh to imply if the dealer is a ltd company they are a rip off merchant. agian, debit card might well make the chargeback much harder.

OP - I'd be asking the manager to sort it out with his staff. You were told the deal was off. That's the end of it. Doesn't matter it was a mistake, it wasn't your mistake and he needs to speak to his staff.

Given the car couldn't be sold to you because it needed too much work and now it either can or it suddenly doesn't need that work I would walk away, sounds like a ticking bomb. Take the other for a test drive, especially if it is closer. It's not like used cars are in short supply.

Thanks for all your posts. I really appreciate the advice and support. I understand my mistakes and all I can say is that I'll learn a lesson from it. Live and learn.

The current situation sticks at the garage agreeing to refund me. They don't sound happy about it. They haven't done it yet though. I'll be phoning for the 3rd time in 5 mins to ask why its not been done. I know refunds don't take that long. It took me mentioning that I have a trading standards case number to get them to agree in the end (which is true, phoned this morning after trying charge back).

My stupidity aside, I still think they have been quite pushy and well there is no denying the blatant lie that I had been refunded when I had not. Still, teaches me to be so trusting in others.. harsh world indeed.

Well, the salesman says that he has refunded me now. Again. it isn't in the bank yet but I'll give it some time to show(any idea how long?).

It was Elite Car Sales in Fife for those who were wondering. The manager didn't care and the salesman just lie's, badly.

Thanks again for all your help guys. I promise to try and not be so stupid next time..

Great that you have a result (hopefully).

Might take a while to show up. Just going on what it can be like paying into the bank sometimes it can be next day with all the processing needed.

He'll be crediting you rather than simply paying in I'd expect. not sure if that will mean there is a delay....

  • a ledger balance will show what funds are due to be cleared, this shows up on your acount (or at least it did mine) at the cash point or online banking in a short time after they have made the refund depends on bank i suppose.

Visit the Bank if Possible and ask them to bring up a list of Credits, if its been paid it will show as pending.
    They have lied before.

Half a dozen thick T&&ts who are too stupid to understand whats been written does not make someone wrong, you could bring a thousand dummies that dont "get it", it still does not make someone wrong.
