Awful behaviour from Orange

Options
I am wondering if I can be bothered to kick up a stink about this one.

Basically I am in the process of getting BT Infinity, I work from home a bit and even though it's more expensive, 55 mb/s downloads and 18 mb/s uploads (as BT has tested my line) cannot be ignore when I'm sending big files all over the work.

So of course I needed my MAC code in order to transfer to BT from Orange. So I call Orange, they give me the Mac code on the 2nd time of asking, and then he decided to spin a massive lie.

He basically said that my line can't take BT infinity, so there's no point me switching to BT, and as I haven't given them the Mac code yet I should just stop now, because otherwise I'll be paying £26 a month for the exact same service that I have now with Orange.

So I phoned BT and they said 100% I can have fibre optic BT Infinity.

Orange are absolute lying b******s.

I hate these tactics..... There's a maximum time limit on how long they take to provide you with a Mac code. It's 5 days by law, be sure and tell them you know this, they'll change their tune......

He could be stretching the truth a bit but if you are currently paying your line rental to Orange then you may need to move that to BT first before you can use the MAC code. You can only get infinity if you have your landline with BT when you place the order (as I just found when moving from O2).

So if your landline is still with Orange he may not be lying as you can't get Infinity on it until you move it too....

Well this is true, but when you go to find out if you can get BT infinity you put in that your line is currently with another provider, and they then tell you that you can get it, because surely it's not to do with your provider, it's whether your exchange can handle it and then is your street hooked up with the fibre optics.

Apparently according to the woman at sales I'll be getting a steady 50 mb/s download, up to 55 mb/s most of the time... and 15-18 mb/s upload most of the time. Looking forward to that immensely, especially when I have clients expecting 2gb files to be upload ASAP all the damn time and currently I have to tell them it'll take me about 4 hours.

Well of course technically you can get Infinity. Just that the Orange rep may have been trying to dissuade you by obfuscating the issue. The fact is if you pay for your line rental from a provider other than BT you cannot use the MAC code to order Infinity until after you have moved your line rental to BT.

I didn't know this until after I had gotten my MAC code and found I couldn't place the BT order, even though it was for phone + broadband. Luckily the MAC code is valid for 4 weeks and it only takes 2 to move the line rental so you can move the line rental before the MAC expires.
