Parking fine. Do I have to pay?

Hi All,

This is my first time to the forum and I wondered if anyone out there can help with a query?

I received a £65.00 parking fine yesterday parking in a bay. However on the ticket issued, the warden has input the incorrect vehicle index. It is a single wrong letter. There will obviously be a photograph.
My question is based on the incorrect vehicle index. Do I have to pay the fine or is the ticket technically spoilt now so should I contest regardless of the photograph and not pay?

Please help I have 12 days to pay the half price fine if I need to.

Thank you in advance.

Just back from my hols and catching up! :)

Sorry you got no reply, the forum here is very busy.

So...the answer partly depends on two things although either way DO NOT PAY IT:

    - who issued the ticket, and

    - are you the registered keeper or is it a lease/hire/company car?

If it's a Council and you are the owner/keeper = then due to this specific error, ignore it as they put the wrong vehicle reg number (normally you never ignore a Council PCN but this time you must). A wrong reg number is fatal to the PCN. Completely fatal for them, they cannot enforce this ticket. If they tried to issue a Notice to Owner in month or so then come back for advice but I suspect nothing will arrive (if it did you would appeal it all the way to adjudication).

If it's a private company and it's just a piece of rubbish called a 'Parking Charge Notice'?

Unless it's a company/hire/lease car, you must ALWAYS just ignore any fake PCN. It is NOT a fine at all. Forget it.

You are not liable to pay and you must not 'appeal' as that's a pretence. There is no appealing a scam. This is a private company with an unsolicited invoice, dressed up to impersonate a parking ticket. It's NOTHING at all to spend any time worrying about!

If it's a company/hire/lease car then read this final link below as you need to hook the PPC in your direction with a letter and you need to tell the lease/company Fleet Manager that they may be about to receive scam letters which look like a parking ticket but it's a fake one (much more details here.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
