Were the postcode correct they would have to refund you the cost of the tickets, it is after all their responsibility to get the tickets to you and if they fail to do so they can't put the blame on to you. However, I'd imagine that as you've got the wrong postcode they could use this as a get out clause.

    Agreed.

However, the OP mentioned a technical fault when he attempted to correct his postcode. Maybe he did the same thing soon after moving, and so assumed that the postcode had been changed when the update had not worked. In which case the problem would have been caused by Trainline's defective software, and so they would be responsible.

Agreed. The Royal Mail will deliver to the postcode and house number, not to the number and street. Most likely your tickets have been delivered to someone else's house, or have been returned to sender.
  • Certainly buy your tickets from a TOC rather than the trainline. Also, unless there is a good reason for not doing so, buy from the TOC that manages your local station, then if you do get any problems you can discuss it with them face to face rather than by phone/email/fax/letter with someone at the other end of the country or in Mumbai !

    not really
The machines will read the postcode and shunt the letter to the appropriate delivery office.
however unless the street name is the same, the letter would be forwarded to the correct delivery office/returned to sender
