Try Ladies Circle... they are a social group, all different ages, and they do things on a fortnightly basis, and put on events to raise money for charity. Each circle is different but my local one also helps the mens Round Table out. Just g00gle ladies circle and give them a call

I would second the looking for things that interest you. I'm a similar age, moved to a new area a few years ago and struggled to meet new people. I tried a few of the meet up groups, but while it was nice to get out and meet people I found that I didn't have a great deal in common with most of them. I started looking for groups/clubs that sounded interesting - you tend to then start out at least having one thing in common with people and it also gives you a starting point to talk about. Have a look at what's available in your area - I've tried things like film/cinema groups, book clubs, choir, evening classes, dance class etc. but depends on what you think sounds fun
Some I loved and have stuck with, some I only went to once - but you never know until you try them.
Good luck with it x0
