Help needed to cancel 3 contract

Hi there. First off thanks for taking the time to read.
Ive had a 3 mobile broadband contract for many years. Currently im not using it so i phoned up to try and cancel it about 3/4 months ago to be met by a very aggressive call centre worker on the other end who wanted to sell me a new contract. Anyhow in the end i said look please i just want to terminate my contract and he said ok and thats the last i thought about it. However i still was receiving bills so phoned back again to try and resolve it. 3 times now with me still receiving bills for the next month.
Originally i wanted to try and get back the last 4 months worth of money i have paid to them but now i just want it cancelled and done with and never have to hear from them again. Im really angry and fed up of being intimidated on the phone.
I was wondering if it would be worth emailing instead?
I need to know what the next step is if they just keep refusing to end my contract that i am legally able to do.

Email them and send them a letter recorded delivery.
At least then they can't say they haven't received notice0 -
It seems they react to @I have contacted the Ofcom Ombudsman....etc' and they seem to read twitter too (oddly!) so any official path seems the right way. Also cancel the payments (DD's) and wait to see them in court seems to be an option. I believe there are penalties for cancelling contracts before time, but I have been told something about British Law states no-one can be held into any contract legally for more than 18 months, so even the 2 year contracts can be left in the last 6 months (that needs more investigation though). Good Luck - I know how bad 3 are at messing things up and not caring...awful!!0

Utter nonesense. Let us know when you find anything to the contrary.
Regarding cancelling a contract on 3 - I cancelled a mobile broadband contract with them and although it took abuot 25 minutes of declining the various offers I got there in the end and received a letter through the post shortly afterwards. Even got a pro-rata refund for the partial month I didn't use. Just be firm but polite. Mentioning OFCOM might be a good way to progress things if you are getting nowhere.0 -

In your contract it says you need to give 30 days WRITTEN notice of termination. Send them a letter by recorded delivery.
Quite why the hell people think email is good enough for this is beyond me.0
