Broadband help

We are about to move and one house on the possible list is in a small village. Samknows says a maximum speed of 1.5mbps and it is not on the obvious list for upgrade anytime soon.

So are there ways in which an improvement can be effected(the area does not have cable) even if one has to throw some money at it. It's a nice house but this could be the dealbreaker.

Advice very welcome.

Here is his take on my house:-
Standard ADSL RAG results

• You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
• You may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL
• You can receive 512kbps ADSL
• You can receive 256kbps ADSL

Here is my Speedtest result:-

the only way to really estimate what speeds you will get are:-

1. what LLU services are listed on the exchange, and
2. can you get the current occupants to give you the line stats from their router? line attenuation will give the best estimate of speed here:-

Unfortunately other sources(BT checker and simply digital) back SAM up

samknows pulls a lot of it's data from the bt databases, with some updates of their own when available, which is why it's better than bt's own...but still has limitations. the fact that bt's own info is woefully inadequate is the biggest limitation

One possibility seems to be satellite broadband. Costs more of course. Has anyone experience with this?

you do realise the bit from samknows you have posted is for the fixed line speed products and not the upto 8mb rate adaptive ones which is what you are now on?

so there should be a section above where you have copied from which gives more information something like this

up to 2Mbps via ADSL
5.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max
7Mbps or greater via ADSL2+

no personaly experience, but the biggest problem with satellite broadband other than cost, is the latency being very high, so its not suitable for gaming

Buy a router that can 'bond' circuits and get another BB line installed or see if 3G is decent in the area.

well then you main problem is going to be cost and potentially having 'another' dish on the side of your house (although i had a look and tooway seem to do a 'multi' dish which is used for broadband and satellite tv - this might be an option?)

oh sorry another thought, same as Sky TV in bad weather (thunder and lightning) performance can drop and become patchy
