Which Broadband

Options
I have been with, sky, 02, plusnet and talktalk.
I have had major problems with them all mainly speed issues.
I live in a 4 year old house tried all the tests had the line checked etc.
Best I have had is 14mbps with talktalk but I am still unable to watch videos without the dreaded 'buffering' and on a night it slows right down, I do not understand how I can have good speeds, but poor bandwidth?
I had to take sky,02 and plusnet to the ombudsman to get out of the contract all gave me less than 2mbps, as did talktalk until they changed the router.
I would like to change from talktalk but to who?
Any ideas would be gratefully received.
:(

Post your router line statistics and details of the LLU operators at your exchange.

    OK.
Pop your phone number in here and post the LLU operators.

Find your router in the list and follow the information.

Should give us an idea on the sort of speeds you should expect, and the cheapest operators although you seem to have had problems with the main ones already.

    Downstream Upstream
    Rate(Kbps) 17493 1020
    SNR Margin(dB) 6.1 8.8
    Attenuation(dB) 9.7 16.0

So looks like you are living very near the exchange and are synchronising at 17Mbps, which most can only dream of.
Are you connecting to your router using Ethernet or wireless?

Both but mainly wireless but I do not get a different speed with either?
I know the speed is around 14 but I struggle with video and on a evening it is slower but still 14?
I have to use wireless as it is a 3 story house and if I put the router in the main bt socket it will not reach upstairs so I have it on the middle floor.

Odd anything above around 4mbps should be fine for streaming video from the iplayer and the like, I have no problems with 8mbps connection.

Regarding your LLU choices, at Idle (MYIDL) you have Sky/Easynet, O2/BE, Talk talk/AOL/Tiscali, and Cable and Wireless. Fibre not coming til 2013.

Assuming there is nothing wrong with your PC, then the only explanation would be contention ratio, i.e
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contention_ratio

I use a pair of Powerline Homeplugs to get from my router downstairs to the office (spare bedroom!) at the back of the house.

I am going to have to try something like the plugs it looks like then, but I assume the ratio is something of a problem because it definably slows on a night.
As I have had problems with all the others it looks like I might have to stay put.
    Also no cable.
    Thanks for your help.

Can you get Virgin Cable? If so, silly slow phone line problems solved.
