Before you consider a contract ask yourself who will be in charge of it. Contracts come in two main forms, capped and non capped. Capped contract you pay £xx each month and once the allowances are used thats it. Uncapped once the allowances are used you are charged at the out of bundle rate, which can be expensive. Tesco are really the only people who do these capped prices on all contract, T-mobile do some but not on iPhone.

You also need to think that most contracts are 18 to 24 months, will she want to change before the contract is up? The IPhone 4 is two years old and will probably be replaced this year, although it will work fine it won;t be the latest version, whcih could be an issue if she wants the latest and greatest.

I suspect the Phones 4U deal will be on Three, and you'll probably have to pay for the handset too, the long and short is Apple don't allow much room to change prices, so that may well be the cheapest you can get.

This deal from Dialaphone makes the most sense if you're going to be liable for it, plenty of minutes, unlimited texts and data so your chances of a shock bill are smaller.

Otherwise, there are plenty of deals to be found here.

I got the iPhone 4 in May from Phones 4u £36 a month with £50 cash back and only 12 month contract - works out if you include cash back £382 over 12 months, no cost for handset.

I found this the best deal for me for my first iPhone. I like the 12 month option as I can if I want upgrade in 12 months (10 with Vodafone) by this time the 4s will be cheaper and the 5 will be out so I'll have the choice of upgrading or sticking with my current phone on a much cheaper tarrif - which i think I'll go for.

Just checked and they have the white available on P4u site. The cash back was via Quidco but I printed the deal off and took it to a P4u shop and they honoured it.

Know other deals are cheaper but those are 24 month - I decided the 12 month contract was better for me.

If you're going to responsible for the contract, I would strongly recommend the 2000 minute dialaphone deal to reduce the risk to yourself. If not, the other deals make sense if she doesn't need that amount of minutes.
  • Thank you, I will look at these deals and decide.
