Old Style Daily Thread for Sunday 15th July 2012

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 15th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Morning all

Check me out, starting the thread 2 days in a row :rotfl:. Not too impressed though with being wide awake at 5am!! Couldn't go back to sleep so thought I'd get up and do some bits, then bring lappy back to bed. Hopefully will nod off again in a bit.

Praying for no rain today so I can get some washing done. No plans yet. Need to pop to shops to return something I bought yday as it doesn't fit right. I may go for a walk by the sea.

OS wise - clothes in WM ready but won't put it on til later as it's a bit too noisy for this time of morning! Froze 3 x HM curry and 4 x portions of rice, LO's from what I made last night. Dishes to wash, hoover to go over, laundry to be put away, bedding to be changed.

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Sunny, bright with some cloud but forecast looks reasonable for the day. Put some washing out last night so hopefully that will be getting dry and will strip our bed and get that washed and on the line later.

We did manage to get some jobs done though, took the airbeds we borrowed back to my sis, took all the kit back to the caravan - so have made the dining room look better but didn't manage to get to the dump and clear the shed out - visited my parents and mum asked us to stay for lunch, so then visited other parents and stayed there for a while. Whilst at my parents dad asked me to choose a piece of jewellery that had been my aunt's (she wasn't a big jewellery person) as a keepsake and I've chosen a lovely heart shaped gold locket and chain, and dad gave my DS1 a watch that had been his brothers, it had been given it to Aunt when Uncle died as she needed a watch with a large face and now DS1 has it and DS2 chose a grouse's foot that has been made into a brooch - pleased for them both that they have a keepsake. Mum and dad both looked tired as they've been clearing out the house this last week, she was a real hoarder too, but they seem to be making headway - we've all offered that we would all go and get stuck in to give them a hand but all offers of help have been refused - they seem to need to do it so we are just trying to be as supportive as we can and when I do my cooking/baking will make some extra as a meal for them - that they can just put in the oven to re-heat etc. Have asked them to come today for Sunday lunch as have large piece of pork, am not sure whether they will come or not. Mum and dad gave me some black bags of clothes etc that they had sorted (mostly brand new items still with the labels on that had obviously never been worn) to go through and take what I wanted - did this last night with DH once kids were in bed - found it really difficult and ended up in tears several times - can't imagine how difficult this is for anyone having to clear someone else's home - its their private space and their private life.

DH has to go and collect his van this morning ready for tomorrow, and dad has offered us Aunt's tv as ours is on its way out, so he will collect the tv at the same time as they are all the other side of town. I need to visit the dump to see if I can find a new toilet as we borrowed one for a caravan event and DS2 has broken it so I need to find a replacement!

Dinner last night was ham and cheese kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk and I had salad and a jacket sweet potato, treats from the tins for dessert. Hope we can get a few more jobs done today, DH has said we can get my new relaxer chair (a treat for me that was bought so I can sit in the sun in the garden - is still in the box in behind the dining room table) - hence the reason we haven't been able to use the table, and we've had no amount of sun to be able to use it and am hoping that today we will make enough space in the shed for it to be put in there whilst not in use. Think it's probably my fault the weather is so c**p as since we bought it weather has been pants!

DH and DS2 are watching tv with a cuppa, and now DS1 has just arisen from his pit - he's now organising himself a cuppa - I'm now going to head for a shower - then strip our bed and re-make our bed etc.

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Morning everyone,

nmlc hugs for you, a meal for your parents is a great idea.

Just popping in in-between my jobs as house alarm clock!
DH went off at 7am to a 100 mile bike ride as part of the Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride, DS needs waking to go and play rugby (in July!) and DD1, DD2 and I are off to church where I am on sides persons rota.

DS went out to a party last night and I didn't hear him come in but his shoes are in the hall so I know he is safely back. I remember a conversation on here about checking for shoes in the hall to know that your children are home safe.:D

This evening we have all been invited to a barbecue, weather permitting.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning :hello:

I've been wound up for days - FIL is lying to everyone and causing trouble, BIL wrote us a grovelling letter full of apologies but I don't believe a word of it, and his girlfriend rang us and apologised then said she'd going to carry on as she alway has. They've all been given a big FOOK OFF from me. My blood is close to boiling point, the person who actually makes it boil is going to get it in the face with both barrels.

I need to escape and I'm sick of being the sensible, reliable, trustworthy one. So I've taken the little bit of emergency money I've managed to save and paid a deposit for a week's holiday in a cottage in Cornwall. Just hope I have enough to pay the balance at the end of next month :D I'll stop eating if I have to.

So on to OS stuff. We have lots of peas, but they're going over before they're ready :( We've picked a few decent pods - actually they're all decent sized pods but most of the peas are tiny so they're being thrown to the chickens. Still, they enjoy them :D The sweetcorn looks really healthy but has refused to grow more than about 18 inches tall. Everything else looks OK though.

Daisy is still on antibiotics. She's eating and drinking properly now. I knew she was going to be fine when I saw one of the others trying to steal the bit of pizza she was nibbling on and she told her off and chased her away :D Just one more appointment with the vet then we can leave her alone.

    Good Morning x
Got back yesterday but spent most of the day still "driving". My balance problems are intensely aggravated by long car journeys. Anyway beginning to feel more steady this morning.

I have lots to do as the house is a tip and it is all my doing :( The kids did brilliantly and I cant fault them :T. Im so proud of them as they really worked as a team and produced lovely home cooked meals for themselves and kept the house tidy. Also no parties (or none that I can find the evidence for). My DD, in particular, was very organised which for her is brilliant as she has dyslexia which manifests itself in a very disorganised manner:eek:

The dogs have got back from their holidays to my parents and were black so straight in the bath. Molly has lost her "woo". She chats away all day and is strangely silent. It is always her way of paying me back for leaving her and will take her week to be-friend me again. They have a wonderful time at my Dad's though so she is being a monkey really.

Need to get going. I have so much to do but I have lovely memories of a wonderful holiday. We have decided that we will definitely move down to Cornwall and we are putting together a plan to make it happen:j:j:j

Here is a picture of me on "Tramper" - I went on an off roading mobility scooter round a valley garden in Cornwall. It was so much fun and the only time I can truly say that I had the advantage of being on a mobility scooter....

    Hester - thankyou xx
    Have a good day xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Good Morning Everyone

Deep breathes Tru :) the cottage holiday sounds lovely.

Actual sunshine in my part of Essex today :j Amazing.

Plans today - if DD gets up me and her are off to the city as she has some birthday vouchers she wants to spend in the sales. After that I shall be concentrating on the ironing - didnt get any done yesterday as DS was ill and was watching telly in my ironing room. (its not really an ironing room - just the spare room).

House is still reasonable so a quick swish and swipe in the bathrooms with stardrops is really all that is required.

Not cooking dinner tonight, OH is treating me to a Prezzo meal with one of their vouchers :)

May spend half hour or so in my office - me desk is a complete mess

Well, off now to see if DD is in the land of the living yet - have a great day all.x

    Good morning all,

nice to know i wasnt the only one up at 5am. The dogs needed to go out.

Hugs Nmlc, glad you have a keepsake from your aunt. Its good to have something to provoke such precious memories.

Yesterday was a tiring day for me, i almost fell asleep cooking our evening meal. Hubby must have dragged me round every main car dealership in a 20 mile radius. He is determined to have another car. So much for listening to my words of wisdom.... Still, he's got to pay for it and as ive told him he had better not come crying to me that he is out of work in a few weeks.... Still, he hasnt signed any paperwork yet. One thing is for sure, if he wants to go looking at cars today, he can take our son cause ive had enough!

Heard from my eldest son yesterday too. He's under the hospital care waiting for test results but the fact he has sought help is a step in the right direction.

My men are still asleep, dogs are at my feet and the sun is shining! Its going to be a good day!

Sending you warmth, sunshine and a little bit of the happiness i am feeling inside.
