Its well publicised on martins site under cost saving for motoring you use a council run mot testing centre and then get any repairs done at an independant garage or do some of the repairs yourself then get teh service done at an indie. Its also well known kwik fit aren't the most repitable for only doing work thats needed.

Personally I'd use a garage "chain" for such works as mot, especially if it's discounted, because they'll always find something wrong they can fix.

Always get recommendations from family/friends of reputable independant garages and never accept the first price on any quote for work to be undertaken (minimum of three quotes is my rule of thumb) as you'll often find chains of garages such as Kwik Fit often have heavily inflated prices and questionable workmanship at times too.

In regards to the clicking wiper, if they haven't touched it as part of your mot test then either they're lying and/or they haven't performed a mot test to the legal requirement expected.

A full list of info as to what they're meant to check can be found on the direct.gov website http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_4022109

I dont think so they done any windscreen wiper test, i was expecting my rear windscreen is in worst condition rusty and will fall small bits when someone touch that. But it was never picked up in the MOT.

There are far worse things that can go wrong with a car than just a clicking noise from the wipers.

They just check the operation of the washers & wipers and do a quick visual check - not that much actual touching involved, so difficult to see how they could have caused a problem. Rear wiper not part of test AFAIK so it's condition doesn't matter.

Also, same with the spare, not part of the test, and can't fail purely on age, only if it's deteriorated, perished etc, which is unlikely sat in the boot. I have an 8 year old low mileage Rover with the original spare in the boot, and it's still passing the MOT!

Hate having to deal with Kwik fit, but alas no other option for me.

Have a lease car and the contract for tyres, exhausts, batteries are only with kwik fit. Because it is leased, the lease co pays up front for the kwik fit contract, so the branches don't in effect get paid directly for any work, they have to claim from head office at a discounted rate, so they keep you waiting.....and waiting....and waiting. Last time I got my tyre back 3 days later.

They are quick enough to have your tyres off if you are paying yourself.

I had done my MOT and service from kwik fit, and not happy with the work they done. After that service and MOT i hear a clicking noise from front wiber and took my car to them, they say they dont touch wiber for MOT and cant check that.

I booked my car to save few quid instead end up with £800 and more new problem was created by them as well.

    Dear KwikFit CS team,
I literally just got a phone call, presumably from your Gosport branch asking me if 'I'd like to book an MOT for my Subaru Impreza?' & when I told him 'I certainly wouldn't be booking with KwikFit' he said OK & tried to leave the call, I asked him why he didn't even ask the reason & he said 'well you've made up your mind so no point in trying to change it' - I then asked if he felt that it was acceptable that he didn't care why his branch (and the company) was losing a customer. So he hung up. Since your branch staff don't seem interested here is why you are losing a customer. Both the Stirling & Gosport branches of Kwik-Fit failed to correctly test the exhaust emissions on my car correctly resulting in MOT fails, your Gosport branch then quoted over £700 for a new Catalytic Convertor as the tester was adamant that I didn't have a CAT fitted (I did) I then took it to another garage where they fitted a new gasket (for £5 including labour) and then got it MOT'd elsewhere (it passed with not a single advisory). Prior to this I've been stung for parts that were not required by your garage & when repairs have been 'done' had to return cars to have them sorted because the workmanship was shoddy, the prime example of this would be the wheel that fell off while my sister was driving on an A road. Since you don't have a facebook page or any other public forum of communication (presumably so you can hide how terrible you are) rest assured this will find it's way on to plenty of car forums since your staff have no interest in listening to & learning from customers in order to improve.
