private car parks

I would like to put the other side of the story! I have a small shop on a main road with parking for 4 cars I have paid for 4 customer only parking because we got fed up of folk parking and going off, its simple If my customers cant get in I am unable to pay bills there is no where else to park. Where are these folk on a snowy morning when at the age of 61 I spend an hour and a halk clearing snow? Do they offer to help pay the business rates or the maintainence on the car park NO THEY DONT! Now I have a private parking notice which may or maynot be enforceable but it does give me bravado to confront these people! So next you park as and where you fell like think of the small independent retailer!

    Hi magpie,

Not a lot of people on here object to private parking and the need to treat such services seriously, we do generally advocate that people should park reasonably and should pay parking fees where they apply.

We're generally opposed to private parking companies trying to 'fine' people later on, and sending misleading and harassing letters to people who legally owe them nothing.

There have been a few threads on here where sensible discussions and suggestions about how people like yourself can safeguard their land from inconsiderate parkers.

I would have no objections to your sign, and do genuinely hope this works for you, as long as you understand that it cannot be enforced by getting some scammer to send intimidating letters to someone misrepresenting their true legal position.

Good luck though, I do have genuine sympathy for your plight.
    Je Suis Cecil.

I do hope you applied for Planning Permission for your sign ?. Have you also informed the Rates office of the sign?. Items such as this can actually have a rateable value placed on them.

I do however, have sympathy for your plight. If someone parks-up and walks away, try placing a large and heavy item in front of their vehicle. When they ask you to move it, take a long time to do it. I gauranttee they won't park there again.

None of the regulars here condones the misuse of car parks in anyway shape or form nor avoiding charges that are properly and legitimately due. By the same token we are against the "farming" of car parks by companies that have no legal, and certainly no financial, stake in them and establish trip-wires intending that the motorist fall over them.

You have my sympathy. If you wanted to correctly direct your understandable ire then direct it at the current and immediately previous government who have operated a transport policy the object of which is to squeeze the motorist off the road by restricting/reducing car parking spaces - amongst other aspects of the policy.

I am slightly puzzled that having been given a straightforward answer previously you feel the need to come back and ask what amounts to the same question?
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

My wife and I were caught out by a change of terms and conditions at a car park and sent threatening letters and demands for over £400. Are we the ignorant scumbags you refer to Mickey? We scumbags try to park thoughtfully thank you.

The problem you have is you need to protect your car park and have a right to do it, and I hope it works for you.
However are you self ticketing? If so are you up for the abuse you will receive?
Or is the PPC ticketing, then are you up for your genuine customers getting tickets?
It is a pity that people abuse your car park, if the signs are working all well and good, but it may be more problematic in the long run.

........... far too many scumbags think it's fine to abuse car parks, and leave their car there all day, blocking spaces for legitimate customers................

I haven't seen you park, but here's a quote of what I said to remind you of the scumbags I dislike.

If my comment upset you, I can't see why, but only you know how you got the ticket.

Legitimately parked! Still gets an invoice?

Which is a very typical response on this forum.

The op quite clearly states they have a very small 4 space car park, abused by scum that don't shop there.
You post a link to a missing blue badge in a large retail park, as some way to show the op how they're wrong to complain about motorists, and how they should shut up and put up with it.

The best sign I ever read said .
    Dear car park users.
This car park is for the use of my customers in my shop, I can not stop others parking here and taking the pi** but there is a few things you should know.
If my shop is empty I like to go home early as I like a drink of the old fire water, when I go home I lock that big lock on the gate, if my shop is empty, none of my customers will be locked in.
Once at home I will be too drunk to drive back again and open it, nor shall I do so, so cheerio if its locked, depending how much I have drunk, I will open it when I get up tomorrow, which can be anywhere around 9-10 AM if at all some days .

Now There is no fixed time I like to skulk off for my tipple if my shop is empty, I wont be waiting for anyone to come back, so see you tomorrow.
    Bottoms up and all that...
