Dear Dunree, my loan (including mis-sold PPI) was about 1997 with Lloyds TSB. I went into my local Lloyds branch, and they checked on their system as to whether-or-not I had, had a loan. Apparently, it did not show the amount of the loan, but that I had one with PPI and because I was self-employed at the time, they sent a fax through claiming on my behalf. (The cashier did this on my behalf and it took all of 5 minutes.).

I heard nothing for 3 weeks, so I asked why. (It turned out that the original cashier had failed to notice that the original fax had been rejected.) So, it was re-sent and within 3 weeks I received a fair offer, which I accepted.

Go to your local Lloyds TSB branch regarding queries - like mine and probably yours - and who knows what you may gain. Good Luck!!

(Please don't forget to take any relevant account numbers with you!)

    Thanks for that Queries :)

I don't know why I was so far out on my dates, I had a lot going on during that time of my life.

I have the phone number for Lloyds and an address for MBNA. They were the biggest card/loans.

As I bank with Santander now, I'll wait a bit before I try them :)

Dear Dunree, I would not bother 'phoning Lloyds (unless you have to, since the call-centre staff have been taught to fob-you-off), going into the local branch is better. (Unfortunately, I know nothing about MBNA.) Also, you have to show why you have been mis-sold PPI. (Look on this Martin Lewis website for reasons). I was not going to bother claiming back PPI, since the time-gap was more than 6 years. I received £1200 for doing so - on a relatively small loan. Obviously, I am not saying that you will do so, but if you do not try, you will not get. The very, very, best of luck. (Try the easiest way first, i.e direct to any bank you used to use and use SAR (maybe) with the most difficult ones. DO NOT GIVE UP!! Good Luck!!!

    Good morning Queries,

Thank you very much for that, it really is appreciated :)

I think my loan was for around 6K and I do remember telling the person at the time that I didn't need it as I had another policy in place back then.

One thing though. I did do partial settlements for the debts that I had. Would the companies be able to claim back the difference between the amount I paid to (and they accepted) to settle and the actual amounts owed?

As I said earlier, a lot of the actual amounts owed were made up of late payment charges etc.

    Regards,

    Dunree

    Seven claims ready to post.

    Letters completed via templates.

You guys are good, I wish I could buy you all a drink :D

Will let you know how things go. Is there a set waiting time I should expect before I hear if the claims have been successful or not?

Be aware that if this "financial bother" you had back then meant you had debts which were written off with amounts still outstanding then the Lender can choose to offset any redress awarded against these outstanding amounts....

    Didn't I answer this above?
As I said earlier, I think it's far more likely that they'll time bar your complaint on the basis that they have no records. However, Banks have also been known to uphold complaints of this nature (to improve their statistics) because they then don't actually have to payout if they set off the unpaid debt.

    As ever, it's your call...

Sorry Moneyineptitude, you did, but I was quite tired last night and didn't notice your response.

Thank you for your advice, very much appreciated :D

I was way out on my dates. The last payments for them were in September 2004. Hopefully this won't be too far back for them.

I've supplied account numbers and my old address, fingers crossed that will be enough for them to at least have a look at the claims.

Off to Post Office now to recorded delivery the claims. :)

Well I sent off seven claims on July 16th, and as it stands just now, I have had only two acknowledgements of receipts/looking into the case.

    Is this normal?

I would have thought that the minimum would be a ''yes we have your letter, give us a wee while to look through documents and we'll get back to you'' type of response :(

    Hi Guys,

Well, apart from acknowledgements, I had my first ''complaint upheld'' leter today.

MBNA have offered just under £1800 for PPI on my credit card :D

My solicitor has always told me not accept the first offer, but in this case, I will.

This card was one of the ones I done a partial settlement with, but there was no mention of this in their correspondence, so I am assuming that this will be the amount I get.

One down, six to go :D

Again, thank you for all your help folks :D
