Carphone warehouse for T-Mobile upgrade?

Hi all,

I've always upgraded with T-Mobile but Carphone Warehouse have the same tariff that T-Mobile are offering me but the phone I wanted would be £100 less!
They told me it was a straight forward upgrade as if I did it with T-Mobile and I'd keep the same number etc as normal. I'd just get an unlocked phone for £100 less!!!
I called T-Mobile and they told me that CPW would put me on a new contract and cancel my existing one and I'd have a new number?
Can anyone advise if there is anything I'd need to worry about with upgrading with CPW instead? Is it as good as it seems or is there a catch?

As long as its an upgrade and not a new contract then it should be fine. There are loads of companies who do this.

I've been with o2 for years and have on occasion upgraded via CPW and on others directly via O2 depending on the best deal at the time I could upgrade- my phone number has always remained the same, yes, you do enter a different contract for the term offered and getting repairs via CpW is a different process to O2s, but you can quite easily switch between CPW and the mobile providers own deals and not lose your number. I did this with an old T Mobile contract as well and no issue with the mobile numbers- they remained the same.

So it wouldn't change anything if it is just an upgrade? I don't know what they get out of it if they're offering the same phone for £100 less unlocked? Surely the phone will be worth more than from T-Mobile if it's unlocked?

So it wouldn't be like I'm switching to CPW as such, just paying them £50 for the phone instead of paying £150 to T-Mobile?
It would be a different tariff to the existing one (£10 at the moment compared to £26 on the new contract). If I upgraded with T-Mobile would it be renewing the existing contract which I would have technically had since 1997 when I joined T-Mobile (One2One) originally?
I did have an old @one2one.net e-mail address, do you think that might be affected if I went via CPW?
