That depends on your attitude towards speeding.

And whether or not you believe that they are telling the truth.

Lots of answers, thank you. Yes, I am self-employed so I cannot just say to the boss that I need to disappear for the day. When I am very busy, like now, it can cost me £250 in my time + £90 course fee. When I am waiting for the next job I could take a week's course.....
    Difficult decision.

My problem will be that I would only go to to the course to throw in their faces that those cameras are only there to collect money, etc etc.

In that case take the points. Beats making a tit of yourself in front of others.

If you want to moan, find the right audience. Which is elsewhere.

But regardless of how you got caught, you were speeding, right?

Anyhow, I don't think one speeding conviction generally makes any difference to your insurance. Certainly didn't affect mine.

Has anybody taken any of these courses, do they just make you even angrier by being patronised like a school kid?

    Thanks

I did the course, it was not patronising, it presented very well, it was interesting and informative the courses are not designed to treat you like naughty little children.

Just put your details into a cost comparison site both with and without your SP30 or whatever and you'll see the difference in cost, if any.

Unfortunately the courses run in our county contains 90% of people with your "why me you only want the cash" attitude, which is fine and individuals can have whatever opinions they wish, and can flout or ignore the law if they wish, but then they on the minute amount of times they get caught, either pay the price or go to court and challenge the evidence, the well reasoned argument which applies to all speeders of it's purely a cash generating scam can then be explained and the magistrates will make a decision, the same applies to the boy racers who regularly ru round at double the speed limit, to the pub hero's who were only doing 30.000001 in a 30 limit :D

But the guys who run the courses, dont make the laws or earn commission, they do it simply to earn a living, it's a job, whether you like it or not, it's a job, just like traffic wardens, police, tax officials etc and other professions who stop or challenge you on things you either want to do, or can't be arsed to do.

So to throw it in their face as you say :rotfl: they quite frankly don't give a toss on your attitude, they didn't make the law and many have their own opinions on camera sites and changes to speed limits from 50 down to 30 and nationals to 40 etc, but they just want to finish the day, go home or down the pub and tell their friends of their day and about this !!!!!! with attitude :rotfl:.

So another "the worlds against me" petulant child will be given a seat on the naughty step and sit through it, so maybe cough up and be 3 points closer to a ban? if that's a risk you want to take and can't afford the time, then that's your option, but get another speeding ticket or no seat belt ticket because you may feel that restricts your human rights?, and you are now 6 points, and half way to a ban, and so on and so on. Best of luck

Seconded. I found the course very good and quite shocking. It does make you think!

I did the course last month.

For the cynics the course was charging £85 per person x 20 attendees x 2 sessions per day. There was obviously a Masonic agreement between the local club venue and the Police/Council. Factor in the loss of a holiday and pay and it's easy to weigh up taking the points and fine instead.

But the course was OK. Raised my awareness and the need to do third in 30. I go. I got a free pen, a free copy of the Highway Code, 2 free coffees (paid for by the fee) and spent 4 hours perving at the fantastic norks on the Course Director. :D

In my area, courses are offered at weekends and in the evening.

I'd always take the course. You never know what might happen to you in the next three years. It may not be an option in future.
