Name of Parking Company...........................................Number of claims initiated

    OBSERVICES PARKING CONSULTANCY LTD........................................ 221
    DEVERE PARKING SERVICES............................................................ 216

So these two companies have initiated over 200 parking cases each? Do we know the result of them?
Thank you for reading this message.

As only 49 of the total of 845 claims ever reached court, we can only assume that the vast majority of those 400 cases never got that far.

Some would have been paid by the defendant pre-hearing, others would have been dropped by the PPCs when a defence was submitted. But those figures aren't shown in the MoJ stats.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

Of the Observices ones I have heard of, they lost most if not all of them (the ones that got as far as court) and were also fined heavily after TS went after them.

Devere are a strange one. They actually tend to win their cases but only if heard in Bournemouth CC. There are scurrilous rumours, that I couldn't possibly repeat without liberal use of the word 'allegedly' to do with an owner of Devere possibly allegedly once was a magistrate, allegedly, allegedly, and allegedly a bit more.

Do parking companies do court? Well out of these 845 claims below and following a Freedom of Information request to the courts in 2011 this was the outcome.

    49 cases before a judge
    25 wins for the motorist
24 wins for the parking industry

So 845 claims equate to about 16 a week, sounds a lot until you consider that 1.8m tickets were issued, that is more than 34,500 a week, and about 600k of those were not paid, so more than 11,500 a week.

Basically most parking companies do not do court as its not their business model, they just send threats and then get powerless debt collectors to send out powerless threats, then get powerless solicitors to send out threats. Then when it's ignored they crawl back under the stone they crawled out of.
I've combined the two entries for Devere which makes them No.1.

Can someone do a Freedom of Information request to the courts for 2012? Did a PPC manage to win a case in 2012?

This has been discussed before. It's too early to do that yet, as many of the claims issued in the fourth quarter of 2012 won't have reached a conclusion yet.

I'll be doing a FoI request for 2012 some time in late April / May.
