I find it really strange that they didn't even bother to contact you to let you know the cheque had gone missing (I'm not disputing that this happened, just surprised). I think contacting the FSA is probably your best bet, although I can fully understand how stressed out and annoyed you must be.0

I changed my number about a month ago, so they may have tried to call. I am ringing the Fsa today as have received another letter stating I am being charged £25 per letter and £40 for the cheque that didn't clear. I honestly didn't mind paying this money but they are slowly changing my mind!0 -
Just read my comment... I am going to get the new cheque to them I am just so angry with them!
I don't want people thinking I am trying to get out of this.... As I gave them a cheque that will clear they just lost it.0 -

I suspect this might be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand's doing. I suspect someone in your local branch lost the cheque, didn't want to 'fess up, and has ignored it / told something else to headoffice. I hope the FSA will be able to sort this for you relatively quickly, as it seems very unfair that you're being penalised for their error. Whilst I agree it must be tempting to take out your frustrations by not taking the new cheque to them, you need to do everything by the book to maintain the moral high ground for when the FSA investigate.0 -
Just wanted to check in and find out how you are getting on?
Don't let them push you around. Don't let them charge you silly amounts for letters. After all it is their fault not yours.
The first step has to be to get the chq. As you said you are not trying not to pay it so get that done.
Then well then it is up to you. The FSA are very tight on companies making sure that they follow certain rules, and time lines. If they do not then they can get heavily fined.
It would be the ombudsman that you would have to complain to. They will want to see that you have tried to sort it out amicably first, so keep all your letters and make notes as you are going along so you don't forget any important dates.
Not all financial services companies are like this some are very good and it is a shame that in this case no-one had the bottle to simply own up and admit that the chq was lost and give you a sensible time frame in which to get a replacement.
I really hope that this gets sorted.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
BJV - I have sent The Money Shop a letter saying that 28 days is the best I can do as waiting for the cheque to be re issued.
I am now writing a complaint letter about all the charges and incorrect letters they have issued.
So fingers crossed they get the message!
Thank you again for your help0
