What voids a manufacturer's warranty?
My Orange HTC Desire has developed a fault with it's earpiece(I can only hear incoming calls via the loudspeaker) and although I could get a replacement off ebay for a couple of quid, I am going to get it sent to HTC for repair under the two years manufacturer's warranty. If I did it myself I would void the 8 months warranty remaining so am avoiding that possibility in case a serious problem develops before next March.
Anyway I have also unlocked the phone so am wondering if this will be a stumbling block with HTC and give them an excuse to refuse repair. I seem to remember someone saying that it could. The phone is still branded as Orange.
Also what are HTC like for looking for getout clauses by claiming the phone was dropped or water damaged? I have still not bought a Motorola after they pulled a 'water damage' excuse on me a decade ago.

It shouldn't be a problem, a broken earpiece has nothing to do with you unlocking the phone. More to the point, how will they know?Anyway I have also unlocked the phone so am wondering if this will be a stumbling block with HTC and give them an excuse to refuse repair.
Not sure what HTC are like regarding this, I would take a photo of the water damage indicators in case they do try it on.Also what are HTC like for looking for getout clauses by claiming the phone was dropped or water damaged? I would say - just looking at it is enough for most firms. Get ready to be firm with them!

Also take photos of the case provided its in good condition so if they claim its impact damage then there would presumably be some external evidence of this.0

I suppose they could always say that the damage was caused after the photo was taken and before it was picked up for repair but I am going to take a few pics anyway. Thanks for the tip latecomer.0
