Two points come to mind. One, It was Labour that thought up the idea of Welfare Reform and introduced ESA in its present format and two, almost all of the signatories are Labour MP's!!!!

So unless I have got my facts wrong or there is wholesale hipocrisy within the Labour Party - I just don't know who to believe in any more!!!
  • Its about ATOS,not any political party, the idea might be ok,its the ATOS assessment's that causing deaths.

It may be ATOS that is carrying out the assessments, but it was the previous Labour government that arranged for ATOS to do the work back in 2008!

This current bunch of loonies have just gone along for the ride - whilst 'improving' things along the way!

I still can't understand why the Labour MP's have signed that motion - they are the ones that started it off in the first place!

It's either the BNP or Screaming Lord Such next time - BNP I think!!
  • Last time i had an assessment i asked the nurse who was assessing me,if she had any expertise on mental health issues. Her answer:(imagine a nazi saying it in that tone)"i ask the questions,if you want the assessment to carry on then be quiet" and constantly interupted every question she asked me when i was answering it.I'm old enough to remember when nurses had a caring nature:o

ATOS assessors are supposed to use open and closed questions in order to get a full picture. However it is quite common for them to only use closed questions - those types of questions that only need a yes/no answer. I too had a rollicking for giving a detailed explanation - I was told in no uncertain terms that I was to answer yes or no to each question, failing which the assessment would be terminated and my benefit affected.

So I did to every question and humoured him, speaking very slowly as he couldn't understand English including 'what is a normal day - yesss, could you please tell me what medication you take and the dosage - nooo, why not, yesss, can you reach into the top pocket of your jacket - nooo, how did you get here today - nooo..........

Then after about 15 mins I asked for a glass of water to take some more Morphine - off he trotted. By the end of the assessment I was as high as a kite!
After about 35 mins of this and my refusal to take my overcoat off (because of pain!!!) the assessment was ended.

I received '0' points but had a good laugh at the time, you should have seen him, I'm sure he thought I was being awkward! What me? As if!!!

Mind you he did describe me on the ESA85 as being arrogant, awkward and bombastic!!
