monitoring company emails

Yes, it is allowed. They can sit there and read every email that goes in and out of your inbox before it reaches you/leaves you if they like.
Its a company email address - they own it and can do what they like with it. (I however do draw the 'ethical' line at replying as if they were you. If they need to reply to something they should at least sign their name).
I have access to a colleagues email and can see everything in the account because I need to find backup for old issues and reply to current ones when she is out of the office.
Why would you think it wouldn't be allowed?0 -
He knows i am aware he is monitoring my emails as he is forwarding emails addressed just to me, back to myself from his iphone, with comments (good comments thank god)
If the email is original to you and BCC'd to him, rather than CC'd, you would not know that it had been BCC'd to him [BCC = Blind CC].Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
If a manager has enough spare time to spend it reviewing every email recieved by a subordinate then I would question whether the manager is really pulling his weight in his own job.0

Interesting thread, personally I've always interpreted monitoring as "full access", e.g. my managers, IT, directors and anyone that has any interest can read all of my incoming and outgoing emails.
Although I've never thought about it before, yes having my emails, all automatically forwarded and stored on other devices, like managers phones and laptops does fall within my understanding definition of "monitoring".
There is no such thing as a private company email! I never give my friends or family my work email address, as they phone/text me if they need to tell me something urgent!0 -
Interesting one, i accept emails are monitored but i'm pretty sure in my company its done by IT and random or keyword based.
I have sent emails about my manager to other people - i would really not be impressed it he was getting a copy of them.
TBH i can't see my manager wanting all mine (and my equals) - it would be a ridiculously unmanagiable amount of email.
Equally i wouldn't want to be copied into the emails sent/recived by the 200odd staff who report to me.I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler0 -
If it were me I'd get another job then send myself an email from a personal account (in someone else's name) with a job offer with a massive salary, so my boss would have the joy of reading how much more one of his staff was going to be paid (even if it wasn't true it would be fun).0

After a few weeks boss would see OP still in post and notice not handed in. Boss might conclude that a bit of harassment would shift OP from their perch or decide that if they had not gone, they were happy enough and could be stressed out a bit more.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. i fully understand monitoring emails, but my questions is if it allowed. They aren't log gin in every now and then to see monitor, they are receiving them as if its their own account, which i find odd.
i just wanted to know if thats allowed. my guess is it probably is
Yes they are allowed to do that.
At my old job someone who worked there was having IT go into her 'sent box' and they were forwarding emails she had sent someone to their own inbox but forgot to delete the emails they re sent from the 'sent box' therefore she found out what had been happening as she saw her emails going to people she hadn't sent them too.0 -
IT, usually. And I'd say that monitoring usually comprises key words or filtered terms.
I don't know any company whose 'monitoring emails' process includes forwarding / downloading ALL emails from one particular employee to a manager's inbox.
As I'm sure you already knew when you posted: the point isn't who is monitoring the emails - but the fact that all emails are being sent to someone else's inbox.
I'm afraid I don't have any advice for you OP, but I really hope you get it sorted. Is this the same for other employees? How big is your company? Is it something the manager set up?

It's a standard procedure for monitoring in many places, to download the in-box.0
