Best network deal for Europe data/internet roaming?

Hi,

Wondering if you can help. I'm a UK citizen living in France, shortly moving to Dublin. I've recently got myself out of the dreaded Vodafone changes in their data usage, which would have meant I'd be paying £90 a month for email/internet instead of £10 which I was previously paying.

Given that I'll be spending my future time between UK-France-Ireland (with most time in Ireland), what now is the best deal for checking email while roaming? I have a Blackberry Bold 9900, hardly use texts and almost never call. I do, however, like to have constant access to my email.

Right now, the T-Mobile £10 a month for 50mb seems ok. But does anyone have any sense of good plans that are based in Ireland for roaming to UK and France? I'm looking to pay a flat monthly fee for roaming, not a daily charge.

Thanks kindly.

  • Then look at Irish network Meteor.

Their data deals were good when I visited Ireland.

There are plenty of shops and you just buy a SIM

All well and good for data within Ireland, but Meteor are still advertising a charge of €1.01/MB (€1010/GB) for data roaming, which exceeds the new price cap of €0.70+VAT per megabyte. They don't seem to have any data roaming bundles either.

I think you'll be best off with local SIM cards from each country, however inconvenient that might be. One additional advantage is that it will be cheaper for those calling you locally. Each time you move between countries, you can put a voicemail greeting on the unused SIMs telling callers to phone the SIM card that you are using.

Best deal is with Tesco Mobile. £10 per month gets you 250 minutes 5000 texts and 500MB of data with unlimited BIS. 12 months contract.

    But the important part....
    4. Using your BlackBerry abroad
What services will I get charged for when I'm abroad?

Throughout most of Europe, your service will work the same way as it does in the UK. You'll be able to use the same short codes without having to use the international dialing code to call back to the UK.

As a Tesco Mobile BlackBerry customer you will receive 10MB free BlackBerry data usage per day whilst roaming. This means you can use e-mail, browsing (as long as you use the BlackBerry connection), and blackberry features such as BlackBerry messaging and facebook.

If you use the Tesco Mobile WAP portal to stream data, you will be charged the normal roaming rate for data use. For details of our international tariff charges click here.

PLEASE NOTE: If you exceed the 10MB free allowance per day whilst roaming, you will be charged for your data usage. You can view the standard roaming charges here. If you're abroad and are unable to use your phone, you may have reached the 40MB additional allowance. To get this call bar lifted, please call our Care Team on +44 845 301 4455 and they'll be able to remove the outgoing call bar.

10MB per day is more than ample for checking emails.

For data usage alone it's worth paying the £10 per month.
