err i put it under transport,as i live about 300 miles away and have no idea about transport in hampshire i thought there may be some kind soul who might help.as for maybe posting twice i apologise as have not posted very often.i thought this was a forum that like to help people not slag them off.FOXY-STOAT sorry if this question is beneath you.as for the comment"hardly a topic for a money saving forum"maybe give up getting a bus and just get a taxi probably be alot more helpful than some people on the forum.

  • Can't offer any suggestions with transport as I always drive.
Hayling isn't what it used to be - my grandparents had a caravan on 'The Odd Spot' and I spent most of my childhood there. Since then so many shops, arcades, pubs etc have all been knocked down and had flats/houses built instead. The beach is a boring shingle one. The only things of interest are the nature reserve and the fair. To be honest I only ever go back for purely sentimental reasons. However Portsmouth is a bit on the nasty side so by comparison Hayling is lovely!

    Crazyratlady,

I hardly think Portsmouth is nasty!! A lot of work has been done in the city and the area round Gunwharf Quays and the dockyard is worth a day or two of anyone's time. Every city will have it's low spots but I personally don't think Portsmouth is anywhere near bad as some. Be interesting to know where you live with your crass comments:rotfl:

OP, I wouldn't waste my money on going to HI as there isn't a great deal to keep you occupied.

Spend a day doing the historical dockyard and then do the museums. And as suggested a trip across the most expensive water crossing to the IOW is another option

I agree the Dockyards is a great day out (if you like that sort of thing) although pretty expensive for a family.

As I said on the OPs other thread Hayling was a dump 20 years ago and I wouldn't bet on it having improved since.
