Boo.
Hope you don't get flooded Beanie. I love a good thunder storm but only the usual summer ones that don't cause any damage.

Thank goodness the Forum is back on line - I was surprised how much I missed it.
MS highlights from the last few days:- made a Chard, Tomato & Ricotta bake with chard from the garden :T It was delicious and I'll definitely be making it again - just need the Chard to grow a bit more :rotfl:
- spent my days hunting butterflies and my nights hunting slugs. Am beginning to think the slugs may have been charmed - I'm sure a replacement magically appears for every one I exile to the garden recycling bin - I can't bear to kill them
- my beloved Waitr0$£ failed me - the computer system at the branch crashed and I ended up with 4 unsuitable substitutes and 5 items missing. They have refunded me for the substitutes and given me a £10 voucher off my next shop though so I've forgiven them. Fortunately, Mr F is unexpectedly away for most of next week so I don't need the missing items now
- Mr F is currently in the garage with builder friend and son doing some work on their Landie. Builder friend is going to render the chimney for us in return so must pin him down to a date before he leaves
- A neighbour of ours was burgled last week - in the middle of the afternoon and their angry dog was home at the time  This has prompted Mr F and I to investigate house alarms and we had someone round to give us a quote yesterday. £1600 :eek::eek: We think we might bite the bullet though. Mr F is going to be away with work quite a lot over the next few months and the burglary has shaken my confidence tbh. We've always felt very safe here up until now
Just when I thought we were getting somewhere with the savings. Priorities Fortune, priorities.
Hope all is ok with you

Terrible that your neighbour was burgled Fortune:( And during the day, with a dog in the house also! It sounds like a real opportunistic thief unfortunately.
My house is the only one in the street without an alarm, and the reason I've held off (apart from cost!!) is that my dog will wander from room to room during the day, so I would assume that she may set the blooming thing off....
Perhaps starting up a neighbourhood watch would make you feel easier?
Take care.February13 - £74990 (or thereabouts)
MND - Let's go for 2020 'cos it's got a nice ring to it:D

It is certainly not a nice feeling.
I was a victim in my other life.
Now I have nothing of any value & they stole all the family jewellery first time round.

Are you sure they can't get out? I threw one (a snail) in a hedge 15 feet or more from where I found it, and next morning I found it halfway back lol.
Some money saving cooking I did last week during the hot- had some leftover cooked chicken (have more leftovers now the twins are home from Uni) and made a Waldorf Salad (ie with walnuts, apple, celery etc) and it was so refreshing to have cold food and leave the rayburn off. Never really gets hot here, so last week and the one before was a shock.
I used to cook the boys a separate meal, but we eat together 5 nights a week now and that saves loads.0 -

I was worried about the Fortunate Cat Natty but apparently the current systems can cope with pets. There are only four houses in our little hamlet but we all look out for each other. There isn't always someone around though. It's a lot of money but perhaps a small price to pay for the peace of mind.It is certainly not a nice feeling.

That's awful Beanie. Poor you. We don't have much in the house worth stealing - I'm not a jewellery person and there's very little cash in the house (just Mr Marmite). The Landies are probably the most valuable things we have and they are already well protected. It's not the stuff that worries me, it's the b*****s getting in - particularly as Mr F is away sometimes for work. £1,600 is a lot of money for us but we paid more than that on a holiday this year so that puts it into perspective. It's ridiculous in the circumstances I know but I was just looking forward to putting a big chunk away in savings next pay day. At least we have the money saved.
Bah, Bah and thrice Bah

I put them in the garden recycling bin which is a wheelie bin but I think they might co-operate to lift the lid in the night and crawl back out :rotfl:I think I have Buddhist tendancies - can't bear to kill anything.
Waldorf Salad sounds lovely. When I first met Mr F I was a rich city career girl and we stayed in the Waldorf Hotel whilst visiting New York. It seemed only right to try Waldorf Salad whilst we were there. Happy days.
