Hi, I have an R reg Seat Arosa, it passed its MOT a few weeks ago but now the cam belt has snapped, causing about £900 worth of damage. Should it be scrapped? How do you do that? It's currently at the garage.

Would anyone pay that money to fix it?

How much can I get for scrap? Is there a standard price?

    £50 upwards.

Ebay it, Or buy a 2nd hand engine for £50 - £200 and fit that?

Depends what the rest of the car is like, Has it actually done any damage to the pistons or block?

Maybe just a new head for £50 or less.

probably get £100 on the bridge.. should be able to pick up a 2nd hand engine for about £100 then slip a mechanic a 100 and your back on the road.

I have been quoted £120 for the scrapyard to fetch it, does that sound ok then?

Put it on gumtree, fully described at £250 and cross your fingers. An Arosa of that year just isn't worth fixing, the rest of the car is worn out too.

it's the wording that worried me,quoted to me is what they will charge,as opposed to they offered 120 to take it away
