I pad data ?
I have a new iPad, I have bought the 3G version and will wan to occasionally use it on 3G, some want to get a Payg sim.
I have looked at micro sims , but none of these would seem to be that much of an economical option for me.
I used to have a PAYG phone on t mobile , on this I could pay £20 and have Internet access for 6 months.
Could I get one of these sim cards and trim it down ?
Or I have an I phone 3GS, could I tether it to use its signal, and how, and this is on t mobile, only on a £20 a month contract, would I have to pay for this. ?
Thanks in advance for your help

You could tether from the iPhone provided it is updated to one of the newer versions of iOS but does this allowance not have a limit? I used 500mb in one day yesterday on my iPad.0

I have just signed up for Ovivo mobile tablet sim. Cost is a one off fee of £5, Been using it for 2 weeks now and it seems to be good. There are a few adverts which you can skip through. Well worth trying for occasional use.http://ovivomobile.com/0

Ah nuts to that idea then lol. I was thinking after I posted the speed of 3G through the 3GS isn't very good either it wouldn't give you as good a result as using data through the iPad directly.TadleyBaggie wrote: »The OP has a 3GS, tethering isn't supported even on the latest version of IOS.0 -
Just looked at the Ovivo website, doesnt seem like a bad idea, i would only need to use it occassionally, and i dont think adverts would drive me to mad.0

I use THREE's 1 month rolling contract. Costs £15/month and comes with 10gb allowance.
Whatever network you choose, make sure that it supports iOS devices. Talk Mobile, for example, they do not issue microSims and their SIM (trimmed) won't work in iOS device. I had an android tablet with Talk mobile data contract, changed the tablet and got myself an iPad - now I am stuck with a talk mobile contract SIM.Mortgage deposit pot June 2012 = almost there.

yet again quoting mis-information .... 3gs supports tethering by Bluetooth..TadleyBaggie wrote: »The OP has a 3GS, tethering isn't supported even on the latest version of IOS.0 -
You are correct, although most people (and that included me until recently) probably think of WiFi only when tethering (which indeed is not supported by the 3GS).yet again quoting mis-information .... 3gs supports tethering by Bluetooth..
The other reason Bluetooth never occured to me is that on my 3GS I never got the "Personal Hotspot" option to show at all (so no chance to even use Bluetooth). However that now appears to be due to the SIM I'm using (O2 SIM-only with unlimited data). I've just moved to a 4S and I still have no option to tether. I had an old T-Mobile PAYG SIM into my 3GS for my wife to use, and lo and behold the "Personal Hotspot" option now shows up!
So it's not always possible to tether even if the hardware allows it.0 -
TadleyBaggie, a very good point, tethering is at the choice of the network to support.
I've a 3GS on T-Mobile but not attempted to use the tethering as I think it is at extra cost on my contract.
Occasional data use is a big problem. On a previous phone I used the superb T-Mobile 500 MB/month 6 months for £20 data deal.
You can get a T-Mobile SIM and cut it down. Alternatively get someone to refer you to GiffGaff. They now seem to be sending out SIMs which you can push out the middle of to make a Micro Sim. They sent me one like that last week. The previous cottage industry of cutting down GiffGaff SIMS may be at an end.
Top up by £10 and you get a £5 bonus if referred. Buy a GigaBag of 500 MB which lasts a month and the effective cost is the same as the T-Mobile deal for the first 3 months at least.
In practice you may have times when you don't need mobile data so the cost reduces.0 -

I buy these and either use them in a dongle or I have a sim cutter I bought on ebay for a few quid to make them into micro sims for the ipad. I tend to go months with the ipad in the house and then a month or so using it out and about (beer festivals and the like) then it's back on the house Wifi so I don;t need a long contract.
Valid for 1gb of data or 1 months use whichever comes first.
1gb - 1 month - £4.50- http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0047GJI9W/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
3gb - 3month - £11.81 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003Z0T3X2/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=computers&psc=1
once the month is up or I run out of data I chuck them away and use another, cheaper than paying Three £10 for 1GB of data.0
