Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 12th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning chums, well a bright sunny morning here in the Medway Vally long may it last
I washed Mikeys quilted knitted 'Blankey' last night and its on the line. I have to unpick and re-knit a couple of the woollen squares for him, as with age, they have come a bit unravelled.I made it for him when he was a baby 8 years ago and he still likes to have it on his bed and it was looking a bit battered so I brought it home to spruce it up a bit for him.
I also have a little bit of baking to do this morning.another week nearly gone, where does the time fly to I could do with another 10 hours in the day to catch up on all the things on my to-do list
.
My book club book this month is Jenna Bailey's 'Can Any Mother Help me' which is a great read .its about the CCC(Cooperative Correspondence Club) started in the 1930s by a lady writing into The Nursery World magazine to say how lonely and fed up she was living in isolated Ballingate in Ireland. The club was a sort of penfriends club with a differance and whilst reading it I thought how like todays'internet' it was and this daily on the forum. Most of the women hadbecome isolated by the facts that their husbands went off to work and they were at home with the children. Its a very good read to see how women from 80 odd years ago felt about their selves and their lives and how they coped with war, depression, husbands and children It lasted untill 1990 when it more or less faded away but its a terrific read and some of the womens stories could be written today. Not the 'problems' finding a 'char' or parlourmaid or cook but not all of the women had that problem.Well worth a read if you haven't already.
Well time to get a move on as I have the school run this morning again.Tonight is henry's school play so I shall be sitting there clapping along with all the mums and dads as 'our Henry' does his thing
have a good day everyone
Cheers JackieO xxx

Good morning Jackie and to those who cross/follow,
Bright and sunny here too. A bit of sun really makes my kitchen window look dirty. I'll have to put that on the to do list.
Yesterday we dug up a carrier bag full of potatoes and a bucket full of peas, which are shelled and in the freezer. We had to keep darting in the shed because of the rain and hail.
The washing is out on the line. Nice to get it back out again.
Tea tonight is baked liver with potatoes and veg.
Jackie, enjoy Henry's play. I used to love watching our childrens play. As soon as i used to see them on stage my eyes would well up, they didn't even have to do anything.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning all,
Bright and sunny here too, :j long may it continue, off to work today, and then home to do another wash for the airer, cant risk hanging it out as I shall be out all day.
Not sure whats for dinner, might be an omlette, will go and check my list in a while.
The good news is that I only put on 1lb on hols, so need to get that back off and a bit more.
Ok better get on, have good days all x0 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Beautiful blue sky, no cloud and a breeze, but rain forecast later. DH up and off to work stupid early. Washing ready to go out on the line in a mo.
Dinner last night was roast chicken, mash, cabbage, carrots, broccolli, stuffing and gravy - treats from tins/yogs etc for dessert for those that had room. Dinner tonight will be pie for the menfolk and omelette and salad for me.
Went to DS2 's parents evening - he's made better progress that I originally thought and teachers said he's a generally a good lad - tries hard but needs to not get distracted and pulled into situations that he shouldn't by other students!!
Now on days' off, and will be endeavouring to get the remaining washing done and line dried this morning as forecast doesn't look that good after today, have a list of jobs to do but DS1 is at home today as he attends college one day a week as part of his school curriculum and college finishes 2 weeks early so he doesn't have to attend today - have lots of jobs lined up for him!! House looks like a pit so need to get that sorted too.
Will be starting to get the paperwork/initinary bits ready for the rally - need to get packs made up etc so we're not away this weekend so will use today and tomorrow to get my stuff done, then will get those bits done.
Have a good day everyone x

Morning All
What's this in the sky? Ooh it's the sun, must dash to strip the beds and wash anything else that's not nailed down!
See you later. Take care. XX0 -
Morning chaps. Sunny here too, long may that last! Littlest cola is in playgroup today so I have the morning to myself to get some housework done, going to tackle the dining room, aka 'The Dumping Ground' today!
Then off to buy lots of flour and sugar, I have been coerced into making 150 cupcakes for medium cola's school fete on Saturday. Thankfully they are paying for ingredients or my grocery savings this week would be wiped out!0 -
Morning all
I'm at work all day, so nothing OS happening til I get in tonight
Hopefully will get a washing on tonight, onto the airers in the house. One basket left til I've got no washing :j
Dinner from the stores tonight, no idea what we will be having, but something nice and easy. Maybe just a simple risotto, see if I can gather up some beans and mangetout from the garden, mmmnnn
Have a good day everyone! xCan't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
Morning all, bright and sunny here too. Had a great walk with Jack and as we were a bit later we met lots of doggy pals and even a new collie puppy-so cute. Day off school today as we are going to DD's graduation ceremony in Cardiff, hope it stays dry as I don't want to carry a raincoat or umbrella. Taking her out for a celebratory meal tonight which will also be for DH as it's his birthday Saturday. Sports day was cancelled again yesterday, we had just got the chairs out and the heavens opened, hope they manage it today. Hugs to all in need esp fed ups and poorlies. Have a good day all and hope the sun is shining where you are£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund
Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.

Morning everyone,
JackieO enjoy Henry's play!
FB only put on 1lb on holiday? You weren't trying!
Miffy enjoy DDs graduation.
I am being filmed teaching a lesson this morning for a training video and I am really nervous, something is bound to go horribly wrong!:o
DD1 still has a bad ear but I have sent her to school this morning as she has missed so much recently by being in Germany and then a couple of days off poorly, hopefully she will manage the day.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning everyone
Lovely sunny day here too although rain on its way later.
Will hang out washing and pray the forecast is right
Got cupcakes to ice for DD to take to school and I will be doing that round at my mums house.
this afternoon will be having a gentle potter, Ive been rushing round like a loon all week and last night I felt exhaustedif the weather holds long enough I'll get the lawn mowed.
Got to put BM on in a mo and load the WM again too.
Other than that no exciting plans. H has been moaning his head off this morn about O2 as we are both with them, honestly you think he'd lost his arm the way he's whinged. are we really that intolerant of mistakes and faults these days that if something goes on longer than 24 hours its a catasrophe?!!!
No idea whats for tea, something not too heavy after all the pizza last night
Hugs and spoons all round xxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0
