It's never a good idea to tell a boss to stuff it, because you never know who you might end up working with in the future. If you're unhappy in your job then get on with it to the best of your ability while looking for alternative employment. The best revenge is when you finally quit for a better paid job with better prospects and working conditions.

DO NOT WALK OUT! The only winner in this situation would be THEM, as by walking out it would look like you're admitting they are right.

Also, if you walk out and not work your notice period, they could bill you for the cost of a contractor to cover your notice period.

Have the meeting on Friday, put across a strong point on why you're entitled to your bonus, and tell them that if they don't pay you what you've earned, you will be taking the matter further.

Then, just calm down, get on with your job, and look forward to the 3rd August. It is ONLY 3 weeks. 15 working days. I'm sure you can arrange a maternity appointment on at least one of the days too.

Life is unfair, but what's important here is that you stay calm.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Absolutely. Although sometimes it is great to draft a letter you have no intention of ever sending, telling them what idiots they are and where they can shove their stupid job.

Definitely don't quit though. Suck it up for 3 weeks (or go on sick leave if they're just unbearable) then enjoy your maternity leave.

Good luck for friday, and of course with your new arrival!

To those who suggested OP change her maternity leave date to start Monday, do you really think her employer is going to agree to this? Especially given the circumstances and she is lined up to train her replacements.....

If the OP goes into premature labour and has her baby, then there's not a lot her boss can do, is there?! And if her GP signs her off sick, again, there isn't much he can do about it!

At the company I work for if you get signed off sick while nearing the end of your pregnancy the company can start your maternity leave early. I dont know if this is a company thing or standard but it means your return date would be a little earlier than you planned. Perhaps something to check in your company mat policy?

Legally they can only do this 4 weeks before the EDD
  • Nooooo! Don't quit!!! Obviously I don't know what your maternity package is but I bet it's not worth losing, and neither is the opportunity of a part time job if you intend to return to work.
    Enjoy your new baby x

My employer is so lax about important things like that, we dont have anything relating to maternity pay in our contracts, only mentions paternity leave which is ironic since they only employ women! Funny that! And there is no maternity package , just basic SMP.

I just hope we can sort this tomorrow, my boss is also prone to dragging his feet even though this was meant to be dealt with end of June. Im trying not to stress about it because if it doesnt get sorted we would have to wait until next friday which would then mean i would have to come to work and train and still possibly be told that we not getting our bonus. Arggh! And breathe! :o
