Haggling for deal with new pay monthly contract
Is it worth my hassle trying to haggle for a good contract price and extras when setting up a new contract.
Just transferring from o2 to vodafone, as o2 have been absolutly rubbish for 15 months (12 months + 3 into a new contract). The complaints department are willing to let me disconnect for no fee.
So seen a phone and a good deal for tariff, but should I try for a bit extra???

If you don't ask, you don't find out!

The only time you will really get extra is when you are negotiating renewing your contract with the same network. What you see is what you will get basicly when setting up a new contract with a new network.0

I would beg to differ on this...
If you are dealing directly with the network you have to remember that they do not have the commission costs of the retailer to deal with. For this reason alone I would argue that they have significant scope for negotiation.
The only thing to bear in mind is that, as an existing customer, you have a history that the network can analyse (it is often your previous 3 months of usage that they look at when deciding how far to push the envelope with you) - as a new customer they have no history to guide them so they may be less generous for this reason alone.
However, I would nonetheless argue that there is some saving to be made by haggling for a new contract. My gut instinct tells me that they could easily offer a £100 handset for FREE and they could similarly offer an extra £50-£100 in value off the cost of your tariff if the handset is already free.

Reestit MuttonFor anyone wishing to contact me privately to ask me a question, can I ask that you email me directly as my PM box is often full.0 -
When I phoned o2 direct trying to haggle down a contract, they basically told me that all they can do is what is said on the web/in store etc
Dunno whether it's the same with other networks, but definately was for o2...0
