Over three weeks ago I applied for a passport through the post office check and send service. I was considering the one week or one day service, but the staff said it would be 2 weeks, no more than 3 weeks. With a month to go and wishing to save money were possible for the wedding, I felt confident I would receive my passport in time.
After countless calls and hours of waiting trying to track passport progress I have just been informed I will not be able to travel on my honeymoon. The IPS wash their hands of any responsibility with their partners the post office giving miss advice. The post office tell me they have only just this week received a memo, stating check and send passports will now take a minimum of 3 weeks. I have now spoken to 3 advisers and a line manager from the IPS. The first told me to sit tight it should be with me on Thursday. The second told me my application had not been processed, but I could upgrade my application and receive it by courier the next day. The third adviser told me that I will not be traveling on the 21st and there is nothing I can do.
My fiancee and I are devastated, I had planned the trip to Venice as a surprise. Through no real fault of my own apart from being to trusting and gullible I feel I have let her down, before we are married.
I am not a stupid man and would have used the fast track services if I thought there was any doubt regarding the speed of processing.
In short if you are traveling and need a passport be advised.
Or stay in the UK at least you have some power over your destiny0 -

why would you leave getting a passport till a month before you were due to travel ? how long have you been planning a wedding ?
they always advice you to apply early and yes normally with check and send it can take 2-4 weeks however this is only an estimate
why can you not book an appointment and do a fast track passport now yes it will cost but its not the post office or the passport offices fault that you left getting your passport till the last minute

I travel 10 months year.
I use my passport for the other 2 months per year for a few 'local' Ryanair flights.
I need a new big passport (48 page) every 3 years because thee old one is full.
I never have a problem why?
Because I plan ahead.0 -
update: Peterborough IPS contacted us and were very nice, they accepted the documents we sent them and my daughter is now very relieved and in receipt of a new passport. Phew0
