Iphone Visual Voicemail

I did not realise until recently that one of my Iphones best features was unavailable to me, and the vast majority of UK users. On the Apple website one the main USP's for the iphone is visual voicemail. This enables you to view, delete, access, do what you want with your voicemail through your phone rather than having to ring your providers voicemail number (which some people have to pay for). When I enquired with Orange UK (my provider) I was met with a mixture of incredulity, ignorance, and mis information. When I eventually found someone who admitted to knowing what it was I was told that it was not available for security reasons (Although available throughout Europe and the US and presumably the rest of the world) or that it was too expensive to upgrade the providers software. Is it legal to sell a product and not make clear that you can't use part of it? Anyone aware of this and as annoyed as I am?

Only O2 provides this feature. Why not download HulloMail as an alternative?
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Perfectly legal. Orange is only selling the iPhone, and they do not make any statements as to the sutability of any handset's features working with all networks.

Indeed, the onus would be with Orange to explain which iPhone features and services do not operate on their network - and then let the customer decide on that basis whether to sign up for their network offering.

However, this is a double-edged sword - they did not claim that they supported Visual Voicemail, so it is difficult to complain that they do not offer a service they did not advertise.
