o2 swapped my phone

i was given an alcatel one touch 990 for my birthday in january, last week it started playing up when getting called, it wouldnt let me hear or be heard by the other person.
got my o2 shop to send it away under warranty last friday and they said should be back within a week and yesterday got sent a replacement phone saying they didnt think they could repair mine within 7days so please accept this in place of mine, its a htc wildfire s.
i know my alcatel aint the best phone but didnt expect or want a different handset and to be honest the wlidfire s aint really the best looking handset either and quite small screen.
thing is can i phone back requesting my own phone back or a better replacement

I dont see why not - I would have expected them to contact you prior to giving you a different phone.

Yes you can, o2 did this to me, swapped one Blackberry for a different model, under warranty repair as it turned out the old model was discontinued. But I liked the old model, I contacted them and they found one of the old models in the warehouse for me, no hassle. They seemed quite mellow about it.

yep they did the same with me on an HTC desire, they replaced it with a Galaxy S - I called them up and they ordered me a refurb through the retail side without an issue.
