Vanquis Late payment charge HELP!

Hi!

I hope someone can help me with this.

My payment due date was on the 6th July. However on the 5th when looking at my current account I realised the full balance of my credit card would not be able to be covered. So I called vanquis to advise... I was told it was too late to stop the DD (which was fair enough) however they would still cancel the DD (just in case) and I should do the same thing on my side.
I wanted to make a payment on my account (5th) however could not due to there being a DD set and not bein able to overide the system as it wouldnt allow for a credit balance.

I did cancel the DD and the money did not come out the next day from my account. It did show online that the DD had gone through for the ful balance. And when I called again to make a payment to cover I was told this would be impossible to do because it would not allow for credit balance.

I was told a late payment charge would be applied to the account because the time it took for a payment to clear would be after the statement date.

The DD on the account had not reversed as I checked every day... and on Sunday morning I decided to try a bank transfer. (Which I was unaware at the time of being an option).

**SORRY THIS IS SO LONG... JUST WANT YOU TO GET THE FULL STORY**

Monday morning I check my account again and the balance still should as paid. I called the service department and they still couldnt see the reversal payment or the payment I made via bank transfer.
Monday evening the payment finally reversed and I made a payment on their own website.

Tuesday, I was told the payment was shown as pending (online payment) but the bank transfer was no where on the system.
And there was no details of a late payment charge on the account. (Today was the day the statement was to be raised).

Wednesday (today) - I check my account and I see this...
  • 05 Jul 12 DIRECT DEBIT PAYMENT
  • 05 Jul 12 PAYMENT REVERSAL
  • 05 Jul 12 LATE PAYMENT CHARGE
  • 09 Jul 12 PAYMENT
  • 09 Jul 12 ELECTRONIC PAYMENT
The dates firstly I dont get as they did not show on those days on my account!
Secondly as far as I am aware late paymetn charges are applied to the account if payment has not been received. If a payment was recieved before statement date there would be no charges applied.
I was told by Vanquis. When a DD doesnt go through the late payment charge is applied that same day. (even though the payment date on the statement is the 6th!).
If there is no DD, and payment is made manually, the charge is applied on the statement date.

Is that even right??

this is not going to do very good on my credit score either. and that is the only reason why I got this credit card :(

Hope someone can help me on this... Thanks :o

To cut a very long story short; you paid late after the due date so you have 12 quid late payment charge added to your account. Fair enough I'd say.

It appears you were charged a fee for paying late, which you did.

The payment was due on Friday, 6th July. You didn't make a manual payment until Sunday, 8th July, which hit your Vanquis account the following day on Monday, 9th July.

However, this does highlight the issue I raised a few days ago: Vanquis doesn't give (adequate) noticed of when a DD will be taken or how much it will be for.

Not that that is really of much use to you because you hadn't made arrangements for the statement to be paid in another way, and even if the DD didn't 'go through' until 6th July it would still bounced.

It this is the case, raise a complaint and go all the way
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

As the OP knew exactly when the DD was due and for how much, it appears, at least in this case, that Vanquis must have given sufficient notification.

What is there to complain about? :rotfl:
