My blind/curtain order was meant to arrive today but hasn't even been dispatched yet. A little bit disappointed as was looking forward to getting them up.

Gave the grass a cut yesterday - think it will be the last of the year. Need to buy a new strimmer next year as ours is past it.

Am looking into a BTL we viewed a while back but dismissed, am hoping to get hold of the deeds to confirm right of way and how much garden comes with it as the boundary isn't fenced. It's been on the market a while, and although it's not what I'd normally go for, if we can get it for the right price then it's a contender.
  • Have you had your mortgage statement yet hun? I am waiting on ours!

Not that we have overpaid anything this year.....

No sign of it yet! I've got a vague feeling that they wait until the end of September then post it out as I was looking at our one last year and we received it a week or so into October, so maybe this time next week we'll have them?

October already, the year is flying by!

I'm expecting a few parcels but not really sure what day they'll be arriving. Hopefully today as I have ordered new curtains and would like to put them up!

I've ordered the deeds for potential BTL, but have started to wonder if it's a bad time of the year to buy as would mean looking for a tenant over Christmas. A little worried that if we don't buy soon then we won't fullstop, and the return on cash in savings is dismal.

I've got a few things to put on eBay but having checked out the cost of postage I'm not sure if it's actually going to be worthwhile. I may just give them to a charity shop...

2 x £5 rewards OP'd. Will try and check mortgage balance today...

ETA - Scratch the balance check. Woolwich's automated system is an absolute nightmare, have tried 6 times and the stupid computer still couldn't verify my details so I'm giving up for the day!

If you can delay to complete just before Xmas then you can clean/decorate over Xmas (I highly recommend de-limescaling loos on Dec 27th as an antidote to over-indulging :rotfl:), then you'll be in a good position to pick up the 'Xmas was the last straw, we're splitting up' market. Sad but true.

Thanks Gallygirl, sounds sad but true actually! Part of me is dreading doing viewings and vetting potential tenants again, but I can't put it off forever!

We'e been seeing a couple of 1 bedroom houses (our other BTL is a 1 bed) just not sure whether to stick with 1 beds or go up to 2 bed with a higher rental income but bring with it tenants with families and more costs if empty etc.

I've been thinking about that at the moment as well. I've no idea if I'm right, and it depends on what end of the market you're aiming for, but I'd have thought 1 beds were rented by people looking for somewhere to live, so more transient and more voids. 2 beds more likely to be looking for a home so stay long term? I'm comparing newish 1 bed flats/houses to older ex council houses at around the same price.

It's difficult to judge isn't it?

I think there's a market for single people (maybe couples) who just want a small 1 bed to rent for the long term because it means lower outgoings. We also had quite a few shorter term enquiries when we were advertising for our current tenant like you said people just wanting a place to live... divorcing and needing somewhere until everything was sorted etc.

    Food for thought!

£25 Quidco Cashback OP'd. Was going to add it into savings but decided it wouldn't go noticed as our OP-ing this year has been pretty small! Hopefully the mortgage statement will arrive soon, although I think it might be next week now.

BG are still working on sorting our account, it's been going on for months now and they have mentioned compensation but no figures yet - I hope they're feeling generous as it's been a huge pain trying to get it sorted.

I got a refund from amazon for a product which leaked in transit, they said due to the nature of it I can dispose/keep of it as I wish so I'll still get a little use from it :D

Making plans to visit family, so expenses for travelling but has to be done. I'm going to set aside £50 per month for holidays from now on, but this will be for the future as I would like to go somewhere nice when in a few years time when we are able to do some travelling.

No sign of the mortgage statement yet -- I was hoping it would be here by now, so shouldn't be too long I hope.

Nigella Fajitas for dinner tonight. I made a peanut butter cheesecake yesterday: http://kirbiecravings.com/2013/09/no-bake-peanut-butter-cheesecake.html

    Delicious, but SO decadent!

Quidco cashback is collecting up again, will hopefully be able to do some present shopping through it too - can't bring myself to say the 'C word' yet!
