I have a Personal PayPal account as I don't want to pay the charges and I'm putting the following message in the text of my auctions
"Paypal Payments : Please note that I have a personal account (not a Premier) and therefore all payments need to be made from either a bank account or a Paypal account containing a balance to cover this transaction, and NOT a credit/debit card payment - as these will be rejected. Thanks."
So far so good on the couple of transactions I've had.

Hi OP
Please dont get disheartend. In a few months time you will probably be giving us advice ! Payapl is fine in my opinion and now I only accept it as it is easier and quicker and does encourage buyers. Yes the fees are high but I have weighed up the hassle of driving, parking and queing in the bank with a £2.00 cheque and to me its easier.
There are plenty of friendly advice on this board which covers pratically every problem or query , and you can learn by our mistakes ! :beer:0 -

That's fine as long as you don't state in your payment method box that you accept paypal. If you do tick the 'I accept paypal' box when listing, the invoice sent to the buyer defaults to show paypal first and a buyer could legitimately pay you by whatever funding method they choose and leave you in a difficult position.
If you don't accept the payment then you would be a non performing seller.

You can have 1 of each type of paypal account. This is a good idea because you can use the personal to get payments without paying fees where possible. You can just use the premier where the payer wants to use a credit card.
In my auctions I use the paypal button, but ask the buyer to email me for personal account id if paying from cleared funds. If people do this and your profit margin allows it, you can surprise them with a small discount for not incurring fees.
Cheers

So if I don't tick the "I accept PayPal" box does the buyer just go directly into their PayPal account and enter my PayPal email address in order to pay me?0

Yes if you give them your payapl address they can put in the invoice number and pay you that way.0
