Stopping Door Opening Too Far

Hi all,
I have a door that I need to prevent opening too far.
There are several things that could be done, but they all seem to have disadvantages that rule them out.
Eg a door stop screwed to the floor. Well this needs to be the unhinged end of the door, so would be in the middle of the room and become a trip hazard.
I thougth of getting this

and fixing it to the door frame to restrict opening, but it would become a pivot point for the door and eventually this could damamge the door hinges.
There are then door closers, but I'm not sure they'd actually prevent it opening and they could also trap fingers as they close?

can anyone help / suggest somethign? Thanks

Do you want the door permanently open but not open fully?
Struggling to work out what your doing?! sorry0 -
How far do you need to stop the door by?
You could use something like thisscrewed to your skirting-board or for added depth add a block of wood to the skirting board and then attach to that.
It is one small screw to attach the circular base plate and then the spring fits over that.

I was thinking that but guessing there isnt a wall running along the door but then why would they need to stop it opening fully?!
Maybe look for something ceiling mounted stopper though could be awkward if your short or have high ceilings.
Guessing there not fire doors?!0 -
Had a similar problem with our bathroom door which is in the middle of a wall. Needed to stop it bashing part of the suite, but couldn't have a doorstop on the floor.
The builders supplied a simple compact gadget which fitted inside the top of the door, and in the underside of the lintel(?) A metal bar linking the two bits slides along until the point where you fix the 'stop'. Only problem with this is it's slightly noisy at night.
Much neater and quieter to have a device like your third link. We used to have one in our last house, and I did wonder if it would work as just a restricter (part of its normal function) if the spring was released so it didn't keep closing, but the builders sucked their teeth at the idea0 -
thanks for the replies guys.
I've done a quick sketch (sorry it's so crude)
As you can see there's no wall to fit a door stop to. I don't want it permanently open, I just don't want it to open too far as it will hit my light fitting. I also don't want it to auto close as it could trap fingers.
I think this might do it

Thanks for the replies.
Yes it needs to on the hinged end. A weight would still be a trip hazard & wouldn't do the job. (my concern is that if front & back doors are open together this door can blow & it would hit the light fitting at some force. To avoid this it needs to be a permanent door stop, not a movable weight!
It's not possible to raise the light fitting!0 -
How about a metal "L plate" fixed to the skirting and a stopper (post 3) fixed to the door?0
