No JAYNE not just you, I've been feeling the need to get to grips with the future for some time now, and trying to put in place things to make our lives more 'normal' if that's the right word, by trying to guess how life will be and get us used to changes before they happen if you like. Bread is one thing, I've been using oatcakes and rye bread more than wheat bread as both oats and rye grow in cooler and more northerly climates, trying to adapt to foods that possibly would be available, but who knows for sure what will happen? It's the same with the house, we've not used the central heating for a few years now, just the woodburner although we've not bitten the bullet and turned off the hot water yet but I can remember well having no heating and no hot water system as a child. The future and how it will be is an imponderable, but, I'm sure that whatever it does bring, we shall be able to adapt and thrive, we are strong and we are inventive and of a mindset that will make the best of what may be, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Oh MAR I wouldn't do that to you, there is always the spare room here if things get desparate enough for you to contemplate actually eating Kale and if you'd rather stay in situ I'm sure we can send provisions up to you, so don't despair my friend, we can fix it!!!

Firstly, the people sending you the letters aren't the TV Licensing Authority.

They are a private company, operating under the trade mark "TV Licensing", which is owned by the BBC.

Secondly, have you signed one of their question and answer forms, when visited?

Could you please tell us, how the letter begins?
    :)

I always ignore them and know my rights and have had many dust ups over the years inc being carded by their operatives (they've never found me at home, too bliddy lazy to come out in the evenings, I guess. Or too chicken to wander around Shoebox Towers of an evening, probably). Never encountered one in person, have never signed anything and never would.

    Dear Sir/ Madam,

You have not responded to our previous letters. We want to ensure you have the information you may need before a hearing is set at your local court.

Please read the information below and keep it for your records. You will be allowed to take it into court with you.

It's followed by a bulleted list called What to expect in court and lots of stuff about having a lawyer to represent me and that they have a right to fine me up to £1,000. Oh, and that evidence collected during an enforcement visit to my home is used by the court to decide the penalty for TV License evasion.

Then that I have to contact them to avoid a court summons. 'Scuse my Klatchian but !!!!!!?! Since when are you compelled to have a TV? I haven't owned one for over 25 years and I certainly don't watch TV online. The most TV-like stuff I watch is the odd YouTube clip.

They've bombarded me with letters and twice been to my home in the past year (twice that I know of, having left cards; I was out).

I was just in from work, tired and a bit hypoglaecemic and went ballistic and gawdhelp one of them if I'd've had them on my doorstep. Rang them up (witheld number) and tore them off a strip. They don't (never have had, at any address) my name and asked for it and were told they could continue to address me as The Occupier.

Frankly, I don't get the Police calling me about firearms licences, the Civil Aviation Authority checking my private pilot's license, the water bailiffs coming across from the river to check my fishing permit. Not that I fish, fly or own a firearm but, in lieu of evidence, other authorites leave me alone.

They have no power of entry and, contrary to the impression given in their letters, they cannot make you allow them to caution you, nor can they make you submit to an interview.

My advice is to just ignore the letters, and the people they send to knock at your door.

Don't answer the door to them.
We should remember that these people are hirelings on commission ;)
I was one of the census refuseniks and these tactics worked for me too. As of yet it is not a crime to not answer the door (so long as there is not a burly cop with a warrant outside :D) or not speak to people.
Saying anything can be 'misinterpreted' - though adopting a deranged look and asking 'Have you seen my teeth?' before shutting the door firmly in their face is another option. They don't have the script to deal with this! :rotfl:

    Morning all :D

Pepper and cheese bread recipe for today in the panny as I have to get out the garden!

    for a 1lb loaf

    1 1/2 tsp yeast
3 1/2 oz wholewheat bread flour
6 1/2 oz white bread flour
    1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
    2 oz grated parmesan
    2 tbspn powdered milk
    1 tbspn sugar
    2 tbspn sunflower oil
    6 fl oz water

Ginny I'm bound to have some mozzie recipes will find some later for you but I'm sure you could probably sub it in this?

I think the T.V and news, online and in the papers doesn't help anyones frame of mind at present its all doom and gloom no matter where you look, then you go out and everyone seems grumpy and moaning..well they are round here anyway :rotfl:*where I live I mean!*
Maybe I should lend them some of my books that'll cheer them up no end...:D:D:D
  • D&DD sending you a big grin as I type, we're not grumpy, the sun is shining and there is a flock of starlings 'doing' my lawn for leatherjackets. You can't be uncheered when you have starlings!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

    :D Back atcha Lyn :D

I think when you're a prepper you have a far more positive outlook on life even though we're all prepping for upheavals..

Even when posters are having a rough time on here they're still thinking positively, which amazes me when you see some of the struggles they're having!

It's all about frame of mind,we all get days where we are 'hacked off' but it's about having the positivity to bounce back from it all and not let the buggars grind you down..

For me personally the more adversity we face the stronger it makes us,ooh hark at me being all phillysofical so early in the morning!!:rotfl:

Have a great day all XXX

I agree that I tend to have a positive attitude these days, but when I first found out about peak oil, I was frankly terrified and I think a lot of other newly opened eyes are also terrified at the prospect they see opening up. You feel you have to cover every eventuality, panic that you can't, despair, and THEN you regain a sense of perspective. It's the Kubler Ross grieving process - shock and denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Believe or not, that is one of their standard letters. It means precisely nothing. I've personally forwarded it to various arbiters and authorities on these things and apparently it's okay for them to send it. Sickening.

99% of what they do is directed by the BBC. And the wording of every letter (including the "see you court" one, above) is approved by the BBC.

I'd like to know what happened to all the sparrows from my childhood? :(
Over at pineapple towers we had a disagreement with an online supplier on account of them no longer taking Maestro (they say Maestro doesn't have '3d security'). And this despite my card being registered with a mastercard secure code!. I don't have paypal and I refuse to use my credit card (just cos I is stubborn innit :rotfl:). Just ordered some 12% white vinegar from elsewhere for cleaning. I won't use it at this strength but will dilute with at least 50% water. Also ordered some liquid organic castile soap - which with postage cost me an arm and a leg - but I want to see what it is like before getting a load.
