The trouble with these kinds of unwritten social contracts is that there is no one you can hold to account when some future government decides to renege on the deal. One will be left like a devasted child wailing It's not fair!
Mum is already finding that out, being 87 now and in need of moderately urgent medical investigations for a new heart condition. She's otherwise as fit as a fiddle & as sharp as a flea, but she's finding it impossible to actually get to see her GP never mind a consultant, though District Nurse might be able to fit her in in a week or two. Bless her, she's not wailing, she's keeping a stiff upper lip, reasoning that there are many worse off than her and that young children should have first priority. Pointless telling her that children too will be lucky to see a real live doctor, as that's what Specialist Nurses are for, apparently...
Personally I think a lot of reneging has already gone on, and it's not likely to get any better. :mad:Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Just popping in to say a quick hello..I am going to have a look at the volcano links when I have finished this. I know Etna is erupting like crazy at the moment.
I have started getting serious amounts of pain in my tendon in the arm I injured so now I have an MRI scan booked in mid May to see what is going on. The anti inflammatories did nothing for the pain over the weekend and I went back to the docs this morning in desperation. I had deep acupuncture, cupping and massage done then had it strapped up. It has worked well and the pain is much less than it was. It was well worth the 40 euros I paid to see him immediately.
We are still working on the house and it's looking really nice now. I think it unlikely we will sell anytime soon so we are planning to leave it furnished and use it as a holiday home for ourselves.
I had a telephone interview for a job in Thailand this morning and my chances are looking good, so fingers crossed for me. Unfortunately it was at 7am this morning but at least I was wide awake and reasonably responsive to the questions. I should know one way or the other in a few days.
Hugs and best wishes to all xxx“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
I always ignore them and know my rights
So why are you interacting with them
By contacting them, you are confirming the property is occupied, and that you are receiving their letters, ie. they know they've got a live one.
I know that letter, having received eight copies over the years. Then that I have to contact them to avoid a court summons.
You know that's bulls**t, don't you?0 -
Saying anything can be 'misinterpreted'
Hence why I don't say anything, and I do mean ANYTHING, in its most literal sense.
Buy a camcorder and record them, whilst saying nothing.
My last encounter (conducted using said camcorder and total silence on my part), lasted about 1 minute, before he got bored of listening to his own voice and left, declaring he was calling the police.
6 months on, I'm still waiting for the police to arrive.
BTW: Check out this collection of Threat-O-Grams, and the webmaster's analysis of them.

Haven't had too much problems with the TV licensing people, tbh (although their letters are offensive I don't bother to open them, they go straight in the recycling unopened). We had a representative call a few years ago, let them in, (I know you don't have to) showed them our TV clearly not connected to any aerial or other live signal arrangement (they were probably laughing at our antiquated VHS player), haven't had any issues since. They probably keep a register somewhere of "weird people who don't watch TV".0

Hi 2T nice to hear from you, sorry your shoulder is still giving you grief and hope very much that they can find the reason and fix you. Thailand sounds wonderful, hope you get the job, but don't lose touch with us all if you are lucky enough to get the job, keep us up to date, we've missed you posting, be well again, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

You know bulls**t, don't you?Gee, thanks, Bob, that remark really enhanced my day.
Yes, I shouldn't have panicked and contacted them but, since I do exist in RL and am on the electoral roll, connected to utilities, have a bank account etc, all of which is checkable by contacting a credit reference agency, pretending that my home is unoccupied would be a touch pointless, would it not? Not to mention that they've been around here and seen things like curtains and blinds and rubbish sacks and other signs of life.
I've put many dozens of their letters, unopened, thru the shredder, but they've been arriving at a rate of several a month, I was tired, hypoglaecemic and not on my best brain at that time of the day.
So I contacted them. Tough. They're so daffy that despite the fact I sound nothing like a bloke they have managed to give me a sex change on the letter. I haven't opened it and plan to return it to sender marked not known here. It's technically true; nobody called Mr here.:rotfl:BTW, recommended course of action when buying TVs and being required to fill in your address (so the vendor can tell TVL) is to fill in one of TVL's own address. Here's a small selection of them;

:jGood to 'see' you again, 2tonsils, been wondering how things were with you and what was going on. Has you builder finished the house off? Fingers crossed for the Thailand job.
I'm having people around later this week and quickly frisked my bookshelves for preptastic literature, part of being greyish. Not as many as I feared; lots of things on gardening and wild plants and various old-stylee matters don't particularly point towards my special enquiry areas. Few library books need to be hidden up, tho. Not ready to have the conversation with some of these pals when we're just socialising.
Righty, better get the brekkie on and ready for t'office. Yesterday was Manic Monday, today will be Traumatic Tuesday, gawd knows what will happen on Weds but at least we got thru the full moon without too many crises.
We track the phases of the moon at work. People's behaviour changes, and not in a good way, at full moon and, to a lesser extent, the new moon.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

More so when posting as opposed to a face to face dialogue. It's something to bear in mind before hitting send0 -
I think that GQ, who I don't actually know in RL, far from knowing 'B******t!' seems from her posts to have the following attrubites
1) She is a kind and compassionate person in all her posts
2)She has relevant life experience and knows how most situations actually feel from the inside
3)Good manners online and consideration of others feelings if the advice she has to give is likely to be unpalatable
4)A very healthy and sceptical sense of humour
5)Loyalty and commitment
6)Her online persona comes over as a very pleasant and helpful person who will do more than put herself out in life to help others
I am sure there are many other things I could say that are pertinent, but I really dislike rudeness from anyone, online or in real life , as pineapple says think about your posts before hitting the send button.0 -
Hi folks
I read this thread regularly - it's great! - and felt I ought to delurk to say that I don't think Bedsit Bob's remark was meant in that way, but rather that he was commenting that GQ knows b******t when she reads it0
