It hasnt stopped snowing here since last night and blowing a blizzard too.

We lose power just after lunch and we got it back at 7pm.

Young couple moved in next door a couple of weeks ago and she had her baby on Monday.
I took a little basket over to them about 6.30pm with candles, 2 candle holders, matches, half of the casserole dish I cooked this morning plus a loaf of bread.
Heated the dish on our little gas stove before I took it over so they could eat it straight away.

He couldnt thank me enough as they had no candles and only had crackers for lunch.

Up until recently, you could buy hurricane lamps, old candlesticks, etc., in our CS, but I've not seen any for ages

    Try your local Hardware Store.

You might struggle to find the 12" ones, but I've seen the 9.5" ones (on the left of the picture below) in lots of Hardware Stores.

(((((Sunshine)))))) you're an :A. That's a kindness that they won't forget in a hurry. Good on ya!

Cheapskate, I see the shorter ones in my hardware store for £4.99. I was contemplating holding out for a taller one but think I will have me a smaller one for now and get the parafin in. Things might just be getting interesting and not in a good way. One things for sure, there'll be a run on such items if powercuts start occuring regularly...........

Looks like my weekend plans for gardening will probably be out the window so I shall be spending time prepping and attending to the cleanliness and orderliness of the household. Want to have everything shipshape in case the elastic trickery might go off or summat.

According to the programme guide it's also on plain old Sky1, 9pm 29th March if that's available to you.
I'm on Freesat from Sky and the only Sky you get is Sky News. Shucks...:(

I was looking up the situation of UK retirees in Cyprus when I found this little snippet.

Sounds like people had a good deal.
    Till now...
I think they might need to pull that page!
