    Likewise for cooking.

OMG brings back memories of 3 ft of snow at 1am in the morning on an Army exercise in Germany in January 1993. :( Blooming freezing and digging a trench to sleep in for 3 hrs. Then up and opening your beans and burgers (using the above tin opener) to cook on your hexi burner, (above pic). AARRGHHH. I love the oat cakes and peppermint chocolate out of the ration pack.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they shouldn't do it. It's just harder to be as cheerful about it when facing a lifetime of low paid work

Oh, but it may not be for a lifetime. Even the most poorly educated of us (me) can get a chance to climb up the ladder eventually if we bust a gut.

HAHA! That tea-cosy is the best. Mardyarthur I sincerely hope that you're going to have a shufti in the charity shops for your teapot, there are loads of nice ones about for a pound or two.

Hmm, chances are they are in the CS because they're terrible pourers, though. I finally managed to get one that didn't pour tea all over the worktop instead of in the cup. I think it's by the London Teapot Company or some such affected name - but it's bright red and I love it.

I want to make the striped tea cozy in Jane Brocket's book

  • Afternoon all, interesting reading your posts since Friday and now have neck ache from looking at the screen for so long!!!

Life feels uncertain these days, and the media are very good at sensationalising everything and the constant repetition of the same news articles over the 24 hour period makes it all feel overwhealming. We preppers are more aware of happenings in the world because we spend lots of our time looking outwards and not inwards. I can understand the concern felt by some of us and I think that if you are not concerned you are foolish but, we of all people are aware of solutions and ways of coping whatever happens, in fact if TSHTF it might just be OUR TIME!!!!! We are prepared, we have thought and planned and made choices that will give all of us a better chance of riding the wave and landing on the beach, we are not sitting back and waiting for 'them' to come in like the cavalry and sort out everything for us, we shall prevail and we shall survive and we shall make it a better world because we are strong and determined and sensible and self reliant and prepared, YES???? We can do this, Cheers Lyn xxx.

If the banks close /crash or the **** hits the fan...who is going to buy the gold and what are they going to buy it with? If things are that desperate it is not going to be safe going around bartering for food with gold, it will be taken off you.

Personally I think the money is better spent on stocks of food and fuel and essential medicines, seeds etc that you can use immediately the shops and banks close down and keep using if there is a break down of law and order.

I am watching the Sky news and they have had some very interesting reports on tonight about Cyprus. The opposition speech was translated and goodness me, he was taking no prisoners with that one....

Meanwhile reports say that their finance minister has gone to Moscow to see Putin to ;) discuss matters. He has also offered his resignation after video of him at a gay orgy in Italy was released on the internet....as the participants were under 16.....

It looks like the opposition have got enough support to vote down the measures, but the government have postponed the vote till later in the week. Meanwhile the banks stay closed and no inter bank transfers allowed.

Much is being said about the Russians in all this, and much of it is inaccurate. One thing is for certain, they are most upset being treated like this since they bailed out Cyprus to the tune of 5 billion a few years ago. Germany says it is !!!!! money but a recent report says Germany is the world leader at laundering money......

I feel sorry for the people, since the banks closed suddenly on Friday they have had till today with no money, no bills being paid and no bank transfers. Unless they had stocks of food and fuel in they will be running short of them if they have no cash to pay for them . That also means they will be running short of money for essentials like medicines as well...If they had a mortgage payment due during those days they will be held in default of it.....and no matter what reason for missing the payment (even if its closed banks) they can repossess your house if you miss just one payment here!

Had a good day, got immediate money we need changed at the bank (plus emergency money). I found a bargain washer to replace mine which died two days ago. The plumber turned up and fixed the leaking tank, sink and pipe in just a couple of hours (after being bribed with coffee and a prawn sandwich lol). I also got an appointment for acupuncture tomorrow morning and he will write me a paper to go and get an MRI as the tendon in my arm is not getting any less painful. Great stuff, we are getting there slowly but surely. Time to relax and watch the chaos that is Cyprus...

Hi 2T - very interested to hear that Germany are the biggest money launderers - can you provide a link to or reference for the report you mentioned please?
    Thanks, WCS
