For anybody who wants bulk bicarb, google "justasoap", they sell it for soapmakers. Excellent company.

Mowdrops, I've been wondering about toilet paper, but don't know if its classed as vital to survival.

I just looked at my sainsburys basic tins of tuna and they have nearly 3 years on them, so I will be stocking up on them :j

I popped into the hair dressers this morning and whilst having my hair cut, some old dear took a fit whilst sitting under one of those hair dryers. It's a small hair dressers, just two girls working there and they both didn't know what to do, so I found myself jumping out the chair with hair half cut seeing to the poor lady.
My first aid skills are basic but as a fainter myself I knew what to do and what not to do. But it made me think how we should learn first aid as apparently ambulances are taking longer to arrive due to cut backs (a lady told us this who's husband is a fire fighter) so the fire service have to stand in sometimes. What a mess.
    Kindness costs nothing :)

Could we buy a little plot of land with £20,000 :). A little spot somewhere quiet where we could pootle around while the rest of the world goes to pot?!
Maybe it depends on how much it goes to pot. If it truly went to pot, legal ownership would mean squat - so if you aren't actually occupying your land, you could find someone else occupying it.
But if it only goes half to pot then it could be an investment - especially woodland.
    Just my take.

Please, please be careful that does not make for a slip hazard. It is a good idea, but I don't know how you could stop them slipping, unless they are very heavy and you don't go right to the edge?

My two 'rugs' fill most of the room - so a bit like 'unfitted' carpet :rotfl:. Also anchored in various places by heavy furniture so don't think they will be going anywhere. ;)

Very disappointed by Max Keiser on RT today. Just the usually rant about Jamie Dimon and JP Morgan. Imo it is getting a bit tiresome. Not a mention of Cyprus so probably pre-recorded. Honestly, you would think they would put on a 'special edition' :(

Maryb I understand what you're saying, but with respect I think that is part of the problem - that sense of entitlement that a young person straight from school with no real work experience expects to earn more than minimum wage? My daughter has been working since she was 16 - she's now 22 and has worked her way up with a large store group to assistant manager - she's now on £7.10 an hour. She's a proud and self sufficient young woman making her way in a hard world. She has guts and determination. When I left home at 15 I worked for low wages in a clothing factory - it was all I could get and I was grateful for it - and the sheer numbness of the work was a huge motivator to learn some real skills and move on. I know its hard for our young folk - i'm the Mum of three young adults myself - but we can only live in the world we're in can't we?

The actual shelf life will be far longer than that.

I've use cans, from 24 hour compo ration packs, that were 25+ years old.

You can't beat a simple design.

According to this, New Zealand savers could end up with the same medicine

Last time I looked they weren't part of the Eurozone (which is the argument UK is using to reassure depositors).
