I'm looking forward to that series and hope to watch it too..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Hi everyone, just popping in to say keep up the good work. I love this thread.:
D'you think the Guides would accept me at nearly 50? I feel there ought to be a club for adults who want to do this stuff, why should the kids have all the fun
You'd make an ideal Guide leader and you get to learn lots of this stuff at camps and leaders training days.
Or try the Trefoil Guild - I think originally for grown up Guides - was always told you're never an ex-Guide and so much of my preparedness thinking is from when I was a guide that it must be true:rotfl: But I'm sure all are welcome now.Just seen a trailer for 'Wartime Farm' coming to BBC2 in September, looks good, same crew as 'Victorian Farm'...

It's not a bank holiday in Scotland but our branch was closed so its a good job I had spare cash innit..
With most of the banks being UK wide since all the takeovers a few years ago most of the bank holidays are now the same all over. The only exception is 2nd Jan in Scotland - I think it's still a holiday but not so in England.0 -
Had to laugh yesterday...
there were reports of an 'escaped' lion in Essex, which is not that far away,(we were saved by the river).
but DS said, "we're all right 'till the clocks change again"

Re emergency lighting, I have made and used this olive oil lamp and it works really well.

Most of us I would think can find a jar, fabric, and oil......olive oil is best due to no smell, but any oil would do in an emergency.0 -
Did anyone else pick up on the news this morning that world leaders are going to have a summit to discuss the crop failures across the globe, it was on very early (well 6.30ish) and I haven't seen that mentioned again since then. The reporter was showing a sack of wheat from last year to compare with a sack from this years harvest and this years is very scrawny. It appears that it has been an abysmal yield of most things -- don't we live in interesting times?0
