Thanks for the lovely welcome :)
I haven't managed to read the whole thread it's very long!
But lots of useful stuff :)
So I'm stuck at home with a dizzy head, what would be a useful thing to do? Sort out my paperwork? Put copies of insurance etc into the safe? Do lots of washing? Move my stash from the spare room shelves (south facing room) - hmm might need lateral thinking there all my cupboards are full.
I'm going to concentrate on stuff at home first, I'm not sure about bugging out as I don't think I'd have the necessary skills even if I had all the kit :o
On the other hand if I needed to get to my elderly mums...
    Needs thought.

Ps it's not that long since a bag of pasta was 63p - now it's £1.79!! We live on pasta :o

  • If those custard lovers amongst us would like a very cheap and easy recipe that tastes good without making 'real' custard with eggs etc. this works well :-

Make up 1 pint of milk from dried milk granules/powder. Whisk in 1 heaped/rounded tablespoon of cornflour, a pinch or two of turmeric to colour it yellow, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon (or to taste) of vanilla essence/extract. Pop it into the microwave in a big jug or bowl and cook it in 2 minute bursts on full power until it thickens and is cooked through. whisk it well between bursts of cooking. Very cheap, very easy, very nice too. You can adjust the amount of cornflour to suit your tastes and for the recipe you are serving it with, less cornflour makes thinner custard. It's nice with other flavourings in too, I like almond, Hope that's useful, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Mr M have lots of half price pasta deals this week. Could be worth stocking up.

I did a pasta stocktake a couple of months ago. We had 2.5 kilos for two of us and have hardly used any since. Wonder is this I sign we need to eat more pasta :rotfl:

Thanks for the Real Seeds recommendations. Just looked at their site and I'm very impressed. Reminded me I haven't looked at Garden Organic for a while so must do that too.

Prepping wise, next step is getting OH on board. Have persuaded him to watch the American Preppers show that starts this month. And have explained why we have a five litre bottle of water in the car :D

One other thought occurred in the wee small hours. As well as prepping for SHTF, I'm thinking we should also keep our eyes open and try to take preventive action. Starting to take a much closer look at council planning website and other local goings on with this in mind. Will also have some good searching questions for the next politico that turns up on the doorstep wanting my vote. :p

    Take care all.

First time in my life I am attending a protest planned on March 16th about some of the policies coming in(for what good it will do)fortunately I would be in the area for other reasons later in the day so it just means going a few hours earlier...

You just feel that you have to try and do anything how ever small.

Thanks both, I'll have a look, I forget about Mr M cos he's not local :o

Juggled some cupboard space so edibles stash all together downstairs leaving more room in the spare room for paper goods :)
    Starting on paperwork now.

Popperwell Well done for getting involved. In a funny way, despite the serious issues, you'll find you enjoy the cameraderie. Will look forward to reading all about it.

    Hello all,

Thanks for the links pineapple, have subscribed to the newsletter. It's useful to find alternative sources of info instead of the usual mainstream 'gossip'. Don't think it's conspiracy theorist stuff - more like common sense for a change;)

And will give that custard alternative a go. Cheers Mrs L

Talking of prices I'm gonna have a little rant... a bit OT so sorry in advance. Last week I bought a certain newspaper (don't usually buy papers at all never mind this one) specifically because it had a £5 off voucher for Aldi, so yesterday I went along and got me bits n bobs (plus extra for stockpiling in prepper fashion of course) handed over me voucher and another one with 30% off baby wipes too at the beginning of the transaction as instructed. Twas only when I got home that I realised he hadn't put the £5 voucher through, just the baby wipes one. I went back today to protest, but was told the guy's till was straight so no refund:mad:. I pointed out that if he'd not put the voucher through the till and discarded it somewhere on the checkout it would be straight and suggested having a look on the checkout to see if it was anywhere there - no was the reply it would have been cleared away by now... So now I'm £5 down and bought a flippin paper for nothing too:(:(:(
So feeling a little sorry for myself... Considering writing a letter, but not sure it's worth the stamp!?

On brighter news I have been to my allotment this morning and done some more organising. I only got it in November so it's all starting from scratch - apart from the couch grass which is already there and doing well:cool:

Up to now I've just put in some fruit bushes - I like those, you just put em in and they stay there. No having to save seed and replant:D
I too put in an order with Real Seeds after discussing yesterday and ordered some seed spuds and a mini green house from T&M (forgot to go through the flippin cash back site tho, so was kicking myself a bit:o). I've got a stash of seeds already, so think I've got everything covered now. Although I was contemplating trying to grow barley as it's supposed to be quite quick and easy and I could use it to feed my chicks (esp if the SHTF, not sure layers pellets for small scale use would be very available - good to have a back up plan). Anyone else tried grain on a small scale?

Well I must be one of the few people whose car insurance got cheaper this year! Mr Google revealed that my current insurers were offering the same cover cheaper online than my renewal quote. So I contacted them and got the same deal. :j
Cars - a flippin expensive luxury but I'm hanging on while I can because I live out in the sticks and transport gives me spontaneity and flexibility. :)
