I think the last century was exciting for many, my Auntie Jessie managed until 104 and went into care aged 97(I think)till then she had no carers and lived in her own home...I remember her talking about when electric came to her school and as a child how she was fascinated.
My Grandma almost made 100(Mum always thought that she would be here for a long time)
Most of what we know has happened in approx 100 years and it looks as though it will disappear or it will be different in another 100 years.
Looks as though we change historically in 100 year segments.
Many years ago a relative of my best friend(Asian)had had her life mapped out by a fortune teller of some kind or perhaps it was some kind of wise religious person. It was probably said in jest but this person told me(I forget how she came to conclusion)that I would reach 100 years of age. If I do I'll be a funny old stick by then.

Lots of thought provoking posts today! A couple of things to contribute, firstly there was some discussion a few pages back about using lentils in meat-free dishes. If you like curries and Indian food there are some really tasty recipes available. We're using a couple of books by Anjum Anand, she uses a variety of lentils most of which are in the big supermarkets and a few oddities from Asian shops (you can get a big bag for a couple of pounds and they keep for ages if kept dry.. Secondly have been looking through the free kindle downloads on Ama#on and found this which might be interesting (haven't had time to read through it yet): w_w.amazon.co.uk/New-Prepping-Book-Bundle-ebook/dp/B00B5GXIL6/
Very keen to teach my children relevant skills (even if I have to learn them myself first lol). What do people think are the best things to be teaching smaller children (under 10)?0 -
Hey POPS I'm a funny old stick now!!!!!
Dammit CRAIGY you've obviously seen our house, how did you know? The truth is m'dear people already travel hundreds of miles, but only to avoid us!!!!! But you're right about the veg plot and the fire going, and very cosy it is too. If I make 150 I'll elect you Honcho in Charge No2 and you can share the veg and the fire OK? Cheers Lyn xxx.
PERPLEXED PINEAPPLE I think the most important thing to teach a 10 year old is what NOT to do, leave teaching them what TO do until they are old enough and teach then to be safe until then, Lyn x.0 -

My income may be limited and likely to reduce further but if I can buy more for what I have I/we'll manage. Now I have been put off some shops because I have to add bus/taxi fares so lose some of what I would save but if I get the pass bus I have applied for and it is free or very cheap, it will be worth traveling to other neighbouring towns and looking for offers and shops not on my town."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Evening everyone,
Have been away for a couple of days visiting parents and taking DS to buy a longbow!! He's taken up archery but it may come in handy in a SHTF scenario:p
On the way home we stopped at the motorway service station and DS (14y.o) announces that he thinks a Service Station would be a good place to hole up come a Zombie Apocolypse as it's away from the cities but has supplies, shelter and amenities - he's as loopy as I am lol!!
Some fab links - thanks folks, have downloaded the e-books onto my PC, so will have a peruse of those and interesting blogs, thanks GQ
Am starting Tai Chi classes this week. Thought a Martial Art may be useful skill to learn but don't want to be exerting myself too much now:p and must get up to my allotment soon and get some seeds in. Got a mushroom growing kit, so am having a go with that too. Instructions said - after the initial germination somewhere warm that they can be kept around room temp - 20 degrees or so, well my room temp hovers more around 15 degrees :rotfl:so think they'll be living in the airing cupboard! I also have some cider vinegar fermenting in there, found instructions on how to brew your own so having a go as it's v expensive to buy! Will let you know how that goes...
Well off to do hot water bottles and take daft doggy for a walk then bed, so bye for now xOfficial DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'
